Taking special leave for an extended holiday

How does one go about asking for special leave for an extended holiday of up to 3 months? I'm afraid to ask my manager as I know the answer will be no. I need to take this time off for a travelling holiday next year and I intend on going.

I think one of our Managers had a 6 month career break (unpaid) and his job was held open, not too sure what you need to do though, but I'm sure others will be helpful.

Don't think they will grant special leave for that long.

You can take a career break as Shambles mentioned. They guarantee to hold open a position for you, but not necessarily in the same office/unit.
Ring HR for full details, and speak to your manager ASAP.
Also, the Rep will be able to help.

Several people in our office go back to Pakistan every so often for 2-3 months at a time and have their jobs when they come back, so I don't see any issue with it.

A couple of our lads went off on sabaticals, one to study, one for other reasons, give HR a call and ask them, think you can have upto a year but could be wrong on that.
