chances of getting VR at the moment?

I seriously considering asking my manager on monday about taking voluntary redundancy as I think I might have something lined up, do you think there is much chance and how long foes it normally take for a decision?

Normally you only get VR as a consequence of hours being taken out of an office during a revision.
You can't normally ask for it because you want to leave.

(I say normally because someone somewhere has probably got an obscure letter from someone somewhere that says you can do it if there are special circumstances like you work in London.)

It's called bumping but it's not just a London thing.

It's unlikely to help the OP though,first you have to find a surplus employee who wants to work at your office and there are no other suitable vacancies for them in any of their preferences then a preference exercise has to happen in your office then you would have to be the most senior suitable volunteer....or something like that.

Technically to get VR a job has to be taken off the establishment permanently but as FT says it does not need to be yours as there is a system of bumping in place. The problem is if RM knows you want to leave then it's a damn sight cheaper for them to wait for you to resign than give you VR and of course there may be other employees in your unit who also would like VR but have greater seniority and would probably be a bit miffed (quite rightly) if you managed to get it before them.

Not saying it's not worth a shot though, you can only ask.

Unless you have direct contact with Moya or someone on the board it isn't a fact, it is a supposition, albeit one that is probably heading in the right direction.

You can't ask for VR, this is offered only in units where there is a process underway.
My personal view is that over the next few years-3 years and 1 month perhaps if we don't get an improvement on our T&C protection, there will be massive job losses, and anyone who has the opportunity prior to this would be wise to consider.
When BT went through their privatisation their staff were originally offered reasonable terms for EVR, this rapidly became worth less and less until it got to the point where staff were getting EVR payments that were almost derisory!

They will probably throw up occasional batches of VRs to entice more senior and expensive staff to leave replacing them with cheaper part time/zero hour workers

More chance for managers as most are now on the max for their grade and many are on 6 weeks annual leave (some more). A £30k+ manager can easily be replaced by a Graduate (who they believe has more ability ) on £24k.

In offices with more than 2 managers one can easily be replaced by a coffee machine saving a big part of the management responsibilities and removing a big part of the decision making.
