i am going to play it for a change. okay 6-7 months have transpired from april ... since then 6-7 months of negotiations have failed and god knows how many months before that, the question has to be asked what the hell have RM & the CWU being doing all this time because we have seemed to have a poorer deal on offer than the one we refused on april. The 2.5% was acceptable for me by the way .... and inflation was never at the 4.5% that the CWU claimed it was ... i voted for a strike because i did not wish to see my union weakened. The longer this strike goes on the more damage it will cause to the business and the only winners will be our competition, both sides have to sit down round the table and start meaningful negotiations to resolve the strike and quit the mud slinging before it is to late ... after this strike is over i want a job to go back to .... i have stood by the union for 17 years and i have never crossed a picket line (i come from a family with 2 centuries of minning traditions in Muirkirk, Ayrshire) and i never will but they are starting to piss me off big time .... get it sorted out both sides

For me it was never the pay rise - I would have accepted a pay freeze for 1 year if royal Mail had done 2 things:

1. Explained fully and without spin the current position of Royal Mails finances and position.

2. Had not added all those strings which made the job harder for less wages.


I would still accept that if the CWU came back said they had not got an agreement but needed another 3 months to talk it over, and Royal Mail dropped all their proposals for the same reason. I just wish both side would treat us as mature adults that can take on board bad news and compromises.

Like you I come from a mining background, Ayr (Peebles Street) No way would I cross a line my relatives would turn in there graves, and I could not live with myself. But this union is getting my goat. When will they communicate. You can not talk for all this time without some form of agreement. If not tell the members straight what is going on.

strange as it seems there is a difference between inflation rates at two point whatever percent, and the true cost of living ,which is rising at about 4.5 per cent,inflation is worked out by the govt,cost of living is worked out on utility bills, avarage weekly shop, rises in house prices etc

exactly my sentiments and the majority of the work force in my D/O ...only 1 part timer has crossed the picket line ... sadly TBT they think we are little kids and they know best

Nelson they seem to think they know what is best for us hence the shocking lack of communication from the cwu .... the CWU seem to forget they work for us and not the other way about time the Billy Hayes of the world start listening to what we want .... afterall we are the union and not the otherway about

Rocky i don't know of anyone in the public sector getting a 4.5% increase if people see that we are wanting 2% above inflation they will think we are being greedy regardless if the true cost of living inflation is that figure ... everyone goes by the other figure

Sorry, but I can't afford a pay freeze and if we were to accept it for whatever reason it would come back to haunt us every year and set a president for all future pay talks within all industries.

DONT KNOW ABOUT A PAY FREEZE, WHAT GOOD IS A 2.5% PAY RISE WHEN THE AVERAGE POSTIE WILL LOOSE ABOUT £30 A WEEK WITH THE REMOVAL OF D2DS AND THE LIKE. ITS THE STRINGS THAT WILL FCUK US

Haven't the Managers just settled for a 7.5% pay deal over two years and acceptance of the pension based on a career average?


I do agree the lack of information coming out from these talks is frustraiting. Even if its an up date on the CWU web site to say "dont worry were still talking"

Not everyone can make it to the rally tomorrow and the wait for the news pod on the website will take ages.
