Mobile phones

It seems to have become the norm that Royal Mail expects you to ring them or them ring you using your own personal mobile phone if there are any problems on delivery. I am lucky at the moment that I am on a HCT duty and I am pretty much left alone. Only one manager has my mobile number and anyway he has been moved to another department. If I am asked by any other manager for my mobile number I now tell them I don't have a mobile. My view is we are not paid enough for me to use my mobile phone for Royal Mail business and unless Royal Mail supply me with one and pay for the calls they can go and do one! Anybody else refuse to give them their mobile number?

My mobile is for friends and family only. Management are neither.

Mobile phones ... RM either loves them or hates them when it suits them. In some Mail Centres you will be pulled for even taking on out of your pocket when on the sorting office floor but then in deliveries they expect you to use your own personal phone to help them out.

if you have a PDA use it to call your office, also office can call you on it as well if they like

My PDA only rings 3 numbers. Will not allow any other calls. I never use my mobile(unless real problems). If I do I ring 3 times then anyone can call me back.
Only spend about £10 per year, texting .

Simply told them I don't have a mobile............. I do have one, it's rarely switched on as I use it for "emergencies" only, and its usually in the glovebox of my car. The battery is usually flat when I do have an emergency

You've just not been shown how to use it correctly, ask your dom for training and that will show you how to use it to be able to call your DO

This is solid advice, I have been pushing this for 3yrs, not only for things mentioned in this thread but also cut -offs, RTA'S, AOD's, or any other kind of problem, We now do not use Mobile phones, but it is a training issue

The PDA's in my office will only allow calls to the RAC and the IT helpdesk.
There is no office number programmed in, I've tried typing it in manually and it refuses to make the call.
And my manager says they can't ring us on them, as they don't know the phone numbers.

In the phone book there's the help desk number you dial that, option on there to talk to your office, it asks you to type in your six digit office ID you type that in and it takes you through to your DO they just need to do that for every PDA then dial 1471 in the office and they then have all the PDA phone numbers or they can send individual users a text

Well let them call you on your mobile and you use the PDA anytime you need to call them

No.
My mobile isn't for business use. I don't and won't answer it if it's them.
And we haven't been trained to use PDA's to call them, nor do we (or probably the managers for that matter) even know the office code.
