A most valid point mate especially in this day and age of the RM. Admittedly I used to do such a thing waaay back (we all did) but it was job and finish back then.
What pisses me off the most is that I do the damn job properly while not one but two idiots basically kill my delivery when I'm enjoying a day off. My regular customers always ask why the young lad arrives two hours before me (two hours!) . I tell them that he comes in an hour and a half early and doesn't take a break so make of that what you will. Perhaps it's because I'm older and have fifteen years service behind me although I doubt the problem will ever be solved.

There's one young lad in our office who comes in - unpaid - an hour and a half to two hours early EVERY DAY. It's been pointed out to him that he doesn't need to it, but he still does, with the net result being that on his day off they don't allocate additional resources to cover the prep of his walk, and some mug usually has to prep three duties instead of two.

Happens in my office where the early starters who also don't take a break are up to date and try to pressurise the DOM to start IPS early.
The people who come in on time and have a break are then made out to be ,as the DOM says "UNORGANISED"

Tell the Dom to go play with the traffic, tell him you are doing the job correctly and your not taking any of his nonsense.

I know what you mean guys happens at our place. What bugs me aswell is the ones finishing early every day and going back to the office in full view of the manager who stands there with his pen and pad making note of the full time workers finishing 2 hours before their time

The simple answer is NO! It is not in RM or most manager's interest.

At ours, posties on floater duties can sometimes be moved if two runners wants to work together. Usually one of them will be on OT and one or the two of them will have a word with the manager behind the floaters back.

Our place is so bent that the manager actually moves floaters to accommodate another postie that wants to take the Van home. Bent!

* line manager has come up with a blue card for clear frames but if he bothers to look at the packet bags... So we have people been picked up for untidy frames, door to doors not in the boxes provided, dfes not endorsed but 15 packets in the packet bag is ignored. This postie went out about 45min-1hr before most and yet nothing.

** We had a runner once that used to scoop most of the OT and was manager's favourite. We later discovered that he had been stuffing mail in lockers in the office and probably at home. We all had to redeliver the recovered mail with letter of apology; with customers giving us dirty looks - all got somewhat implicated by association.

If you were a manager in large company would you stop your staff working for free? Because I sure as hell wouldn't!

Posties coming in early, not taking their breaks and making D2D's up after their duty for free has probably been happening up and down the country long before any of us started in the business and will probably continue to happen long after we've left the business. There is just simply no solution to deal with 'idiots'.

I just don't understand how if someone starts 45 mins early why they aren't finished 45 mins earlier? Just doesn't add up. Or if someone sits on a Saturday afternoon prepping their 4 or 5 D2D items (and prepping them and not getting paid) for the following week, how that doesn't set them up well and give them a head start for the following week. Again it doesn't add up.

People working for free will never ever be addressed by management. Why would they? I honestly don't even believe introducing a 'clocking in and out' system would put an end to it.

So if people working for free can't be stopped, then what can we do?

Get the guys who don't come in early, who do take their breaks and who do make their D2D items up within their duty time all together as a collective group along with your hopefully on the ball union rep. Make your voice heard and concerns known. But do it in an intelligent and educated way. You need to all stick together as a group and willing to stand up for yourself. They'll be a bit of a debate but your manager simply can not choose to ignore the cold hard facts and he can't dismiss what he sees with his own eyes each and every single day.

And not only that, because when the private company relieve us of our paid breaks and replace them with unpaid ones, which they will surely do at some point, the useless w@$%&!s will continue to run around when they should be having something to eat and drink......and arguing with/bullying their their p&l partners who have better things to do in their own time.

Friends and family simply do not believe some of the stories I tell them about the place where I work, and I don't frigging blame them.

Going in early will go on as long there are people too stupid to see the big picture.

I know the job is difficult at the moment but it is within your power using the text of the 2010 agreement to the full, you can make your job easier by doing it exactly by the book, job and knock is finished, I did and I did get some hassle but I stuck to my guns, they leave me alone and they know I will just dig my heels in if they try to push me round, if everybody in the UK if EVERY office did this the bullying will stop as a united office would be harder to crack than divide and rule.

I would imagine my Lino would love to offer me a big big VR payment to persuade me to leave, at the moment its not worth me going, they would have to make it a really BIG pay off to be tempting and even then I will still think of the pros and cons

The other day i informed my lino and my union rep that i wont be starting one min before my time nothing will be thrown in my frame till after group ,ips etc,he said as long as i was up to speed doing the job as it should be done not a problem and actually applauded me for doing it ,i also said if it causes me and my p and l patner not to lapse then it cant and wont be held against us ,he frowned but said fine ,so we shall see what happens
After a week of doing it we have cut off twice with no lapsing and had no comebacks
