Thoughts on the ballot

Post by rhino49 »

The privatisation of Royal Mail is a certainty but the future of those most affected by it hangs in a very precarious balance, and I refer to not only the workforce but also those who depend on our business for reliable and affordable communication by way of the postal system. The only beneficiaries from the sale that I can see at present are the Government and the financial sector who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Anyone who has experienced a recent revision will know that computer predictions are wholly unreliable in an industry where there are so many human beings and other less sophisicated variables to allow for but that when there is input and control by experienced people who actually care about it, then hey presto - things start to work.

By voting "YES" the strike ballot you will swing the argument towards those who know how things work and away from those who simply think that they know.

Nobody wants to strike but then nobody wanted to go to war either - the result of lack of committment to the latest (industrial) call to arms will be a surrender to a way of life and employment that will heap misery on us until we are forced to look elsewhere for income and employment.

There are few "good" employers under the present economic clouds but ours can be influenced and guided by firm and confident intervention by representatives that have a united workforce behind them. This situation will only come from a resounding yes vote and a determination that if we are to be shareholders in the company we work for then we should be ensuring that it meets the ethical and employment standards that we expect from a business that aspires to being World Class.

Hear, hear.

Royal Mail's history outlasts the existence of many of the modern world's countries. It's been a provider of work to generation after generation of working class people. It is so much more than a "brand", it is literally integrated into the UK's infrastructure, and embedded in the nations conscience. We are all a part of that. It's been passed down with pride (not so much care ) from generation to generation, and now here we are, at the end of the road.

So I can't help but feel that whilst we are striking to protect our T&C's, there's a lot more to it than just that. We're trying to defend and preserve the soul of Royal Mail (its workforce). It's up to us to defend and preserve that, and make sure that any new owners sit up and take notice. They may come in and own a majority share, but they'll never know it like we know it. Our strike will send a message that we are the Royal Mail, and that without us they're nothing.

This "country" as in UK?

I mean up here in Jockland either people voted SNP or Labour last election, yet we are returned with a Tory govt nobody voted for, and now we see why.....

The SNP, majority party here, are against privatisation so roll on Independence and our own mail service!

Either the Scottish government pays Royal Mail a sum that relates to the Scottish assets and Royal Mail would then return that to the shareholders probably in the form of a one off dividend,Someone somewhere quoted 8%.

Or alternatively we could just take it by force, paint the vans with saltires overnight and see if you lot have the bottle to come and get it back.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Now come on Fish, you know we ain,t got any aircraft on our carriers, so we can,t attack you from offshore. Most of our army are only going to be part timers. Our only hope really is to send the Red Arrows up there on a reccy, and blow some red, white and blue smoke over, and hope it frightens the sh.t out of you jocks. :chuckle :chuckle

There is a much better way of doing it,just stop the flow of Buckfast at the border, they would be fighting amongst themselves for the last few bottles and we could just stroll thru and collect everything without a struggle. :Very Happy
