If you've been through revision your not allowed bag on your shoulder ! I was stopped last week by I b the man said he was in charge of I b throughout the business he told me it was safer in a locked trolley rather than having it on your person !

The rules are very simple:
The trolley stays with you the whole way round the duty.......
unless you have flats or terrain issues.

The length of time you can be away from the trolley should be determined by a risk assessment (anything from 0 - 15 minutes)
While you are away from the trolley it needs to be secured to something and the Special Deliveries should be kept on your person.
You were never allowed to put your SD in a drop box. You can't leave them in a trolley.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

What about a HCT effetely high street vans/drop boxes! One can only consider the risk of HCT/CDV duties after a full revision.

Hct must go around with you from delivery point to delivery point where possible, so unless there is a physical obstruction. If locked it should be matched to your security settings, ours is medium and so is 5 mins.

It should not be used as a mobile pouch box, your leaving yourself open if you do.

It's strange reading these comments because every office that i've worked in within my area, people are more or less left to do what they want in regards to trolleys, bags etc. Managers and WCM people alike turn a blind eye and even encourage using bags for the duration of the entire walk. For example someone who's new to a walk might ask the manager about it, the manager will then go to the person who usually does the walk and ask them, they will then explain, standing right in front of the manager, that you should do this road and that road on the bag, leave the trolley locked at so and so point, come back to the trolley and move it somewhere else and do another bag, etc etc. It would be obvious to anyone within earshot that the method involves leaving the trolley locked for in excess of 30 minutes or more, and no one ever questions anything or acts like this is even a problem, because it is not enforced or ever even suggested by management.

Some walks have trolleys permanently locked to posts on the walk, never brought back to the office, sitting on the street 365 days a year it seems. I'm not saying this is right or wrong relative to previous comments here, just that this is how it is in my area. Nobody would even know or care whether it's right or wrong, because they don't know anything else to go by. It's accepted by all as the status quo, and i'm yet to see anyone, even a rep, actually challenge it or take issue with these methods. Some of these offices have had a full revision as well, others only to a small extent, but when it comes to outdoor methods you wouldn't know the difference between them. So you can understand from my point of view when I read about people being suspended over HCT methods, and worrying about leaving the trolley locked up for more than 5 minutes, it's like reading about the working practices of a completely different company.

The problems begin when something goes wrong.
They will ask if you have been properly trained on the use of a HCT.
Did you follow the SSOW and correct security procedures for that duty?

If you haven't then you will probably lose your job. And no manager will back you up and say they knew what was going on but turned a blind eye to it.
And you really have to wonder what the WPC is doing for their £30.

If doing it the way they insist takes you an hour, instead of 20 minutes, that is their problem, not yours. Just work to your time.

And that IS the point for me, as a rep, I cannot sign of deliveries that I know cannot be done in time with methods. I also see their side and they think I am a complete trouble causer, as they see the members coming back early on those walks, what a crazy situation.

And they look at me like im a complete xxxx when I say they are not doing it right either when they refer to a neighbouring office that is considered a successful revision. :

Sometimes I lock the trolley against a lamp post when I'm going up and down roads for up to 20 mins at a time. If I took it to every single door I would be out all day.

And herein lies the problem, too many OPGs break the SSOW rules because they want to get the walk done in time, rather than doing it properly and taking longer (cutting off, booking o/t). They do not want the daily hassle of arguing with their lino that their walk cannot be completed before contract finish time for all but literally a few odd days here and there through the summer months.

Remember, after a delivery methods revision, the HCT walks are supposed to be achievable if you follow the SSOW rules (just like any other delivery method type). Every single OPG that does stuff like this (including starting early, not taking paid breaks etc.) have all helped RM look amazingly profitable ahead of privitisation.

You only have to be out all day to complete if you want the overtime, if you don't then follow cut-off procedure.

What's that I hear you all cry? The walks are not achievable? Yeah, chief, it must be a performance issue... It couldn't possibly be fudged data in the computer or trying to make savings where savings are not possible. :cuppa

Raise your head above the parapet at my place and you get sacked eventually. ALL the cutoff guys, and row leavers, have all been potted over minor problems, its how it is at our place.
That's what happened in our office after our revision.
We had the Dom from hell.
Anyone who said no was a target for the sack or suspension.
The slightest mistake and that was it.
Sadly we have to win every time when in conflict with management.
They only have to win once and you are history.
