Valley delivery office near Gateshead is one of the first to get the new ‘resourcing to demand’ simulator board


The new ‘resourcing to demand simulator board has really changed how colleagues in Valley delivery office, near Gateshead work. Here they tell their story.

‘It saved us 15 minutes straight away on time out when it was first put in,’ says delivery office manager Graham Clarey.

‘It shows every single tray that comes into the office, and how long it should be in the inward primary sorting (IPS), prep and a target for the time out. It’s really easy to manage.’

Time saving

The office has also been reorganised into pods, with four fittings and four duties per pod. Frames in IPS are cleared down from the outside and sorting takes place in the middle, saving up to seven minutes per person and cutting duplication of effort.

Justin Maughan has been a postman since 1998. He says: ‘I’ve seen a lot of changes, but this is one for the better.

‘The workload is much more equal and everyone knows exactly what they have to do each day. Everything is laid out in the right way.

‘Out of the office, there is less weight on our backs, and having the van means we don’t have to rely on drop-off points and bag boxes.

‘I really like the new ways of working. I wouldn’t change anything back.’

ha.,,, he hasnt even done a delivery since the revisions came in so he wouldnt know. he is the doms assistant, and when he was at ours he was a ''runner''. coming in early, not taking his break, and going home on the bus at 10am. typical courier propaganda. me mate who works there says some didnt get out the office on monday til 10.45. ridiculing their 15mins early crap. garbage.

Apparently this must be a very modern movement I hear tell that the course lasts for 3 days and involves the DOM and the Unit Rep ours are due to go next month so we may find something out then - don't think it's been shown on RMTV.

it is amazing now how far ips is advanced !! When I first started 10 years ago all mail came in for our actual office and correct Postcode how old fashioned was that.

Now we the mail comes in totally mixed often a bit not even for our office somewhere 50 miles up the road! Spens half our time now just segging into POSTCODES! GLAD FOR THE ADVANCES!!
