Lapsing / Absorption

Can anybody point me in the right direction concerning the agreement on lapsing when traffic is above model week for the office? My understanding is that once traffic goes above the model working week, then absorption/lapsing should cease. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do it if you have time in your duty or want some OT. Don't do it if you don't want to go over. Traffic volumes are largely irrelevant.

The 'model week' is only one factor of an overall decision discussed with the Rep at a Weekly Resource Meeting

My understanding is they'll give the figures (no doubt massaged in their favour) and then inform us we'll try to lapse, this is an all year thing. Apart from the few weeks near Christmas, how generous.

It's got f..k all to do with figures in our office, just take a chance and hope some mugs fall for it (or work through break, run or have easy walk etc) because they don't have the staff to cover it. If I have time I'll do it, if not then I politely say no, wait for the usual torrent of drivel regarding traffic/time leaving office/other management crap, then remind them of various reasons why I still can't do it and say my goodbyes..

as a rep I always take a close look at IWT as dom tries to get us to lapse when he knows full well we cannot. DOM should know this but tries his luck.

That's the way to use the tools...falling traffic or lower traffic than Model Traffic Week means nothing, by itself. The traffic mix might mean that the workload hours needed to deliver lower traffic are the same or more. For instance, letters a down a lot, but packets are up a lot. Packets take more time to prep and deliver, so just saying 'traffic is below model week' means nothing. The traffic should be run through IWT to calcuate whether actual workload is lower.
