A shake-up of the way post is delivered to a village near Wolverhampton has been announced – as Royal Mail said it is introducing new routes and methods to become ‘more efficient’.
It means some people living in Wombourne will receive their mail later in the day.
Others may get it earlier, bosses say, as a reorganisation of delivery routes comes into force over the coming weeks.
The move has been prompted by a drop in the number of letters being delivered which has led to a reorganisation of routes.
Bosses also said new equipment is being used to stop postmen and women lugging around heavy bags.
Val Bodden, spokesperson for Royal Mail, said: “The way in which we communicate with each other has changed dramatically.
“Unfortunately, fewer letters are now posted every day and Royal Mail needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.
“We also deliver more larger items and so we are investing in new equipment to carry these items to customers even more securely.
“The new equipment also reduces the risk of injury to our postmen and women from carrying heavier bags.”
Letters have been sent to all people living in the Wombourne area about the changes, which are coming into force in phases.
Royal Mail has said it will continue to deliver in the morning and for a longer period during the day but many customers will still get their mail by lunchtime. The time customers get their mail will depend on where they live.
And when mail volumes vary, delivery times and arrangements may be adjusted again.
People living in Wombourne have been sent a number they can contact if they have queries.
Ms Bodden added: “These changes will require a period of adjustment for staff.
“However, Royal Mail will be doing everything possible to maintain a high level of service and thanks customers for their understanding.”

More efficient = cheap 2nd rate service, in 21st century English language.
