Withdrawal of £300 Pay Deal Lump Sum for Striking Offices
I received Royal Mail’s booklet in the post today called ‘What Privatisation Means for You’. On page 4 it says that the £300 lump sum in year one as part of the pay deal ‘will be forfeited in offices where industrial action takes place before the payment date’ (small print at base of page).
It would seem that if just one staff member in any office strikes before the end of the year that all staff will lose the £300 payment. Can anyone please clarify? It seems very harsh!

Harsh by who ?
RM for imposing this condition.
Or harsh by any of your colleagues for striking & denying rest of office of £300.

I mean Royal Mail are being harsh for withdrawing the £300 from any staff - it seems unfair pressure to prevent a strike. Any striking staff could face hostility from their colleagues for losing them the £300 payment.gb93 wrote:Harsh by who ?

My personal view of striking is that if the majority of union members vote for a strike then I respect the majority decision and go on strike. That seems to be the whole point of a union!

The £300 is neither here nor there as the pay offer by Royal Mail has been declined by CWU. This is one of the reasons for balloting for industrial action.

If there's only one postman serving the 2,800 population scattered across the 338 square miles of Mull then he'll be that overworked that he's sure to join the strike.Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:Its clearly a bribe to stop people striking, and for those non strikers to pressure the potential strikers to work. In theory its a good idea, in reality its a smokescreen. They wont pay out 1 penny, as people will strike, simple, not everyone, but the majority and id be amazed if even 1 office got this. Apart from the isleof mull who have 1 postman at the officethornebt wrote:I mean Royal Mail are being harsh for withdrawing the £300 from any staff - it seems unfair pressure to prevent a strike. Our dom actually told a few people at our place that its individual. Good job I know what I know, as people fall for this time and time again.
Seriously though, how do they define 'office', like if there's not only a town Delivery Office with a hundred staff, most of whom are on strike, but also half a dozen SPDOs some of which continue working ?

Yes, and the offer can hardly be called one worth considering with that caveat within it. It clearly displays the intentions of the company are not honourable, they are stoking the likelihood of industrial action, and you wonder if they are being worked from the back by the government of the day.Lincox wrote:The £300 is neither here nor there as the pay offer by Royal Mail has been declined by CWU. This is getting tedious.
The can't withdraw the £300 because it doesn't exist.
It might exist in a future agreed pay deal,It might not.
If it does there won't be a "no strike" clause involved.

They haven't paid us all the monies from our revision so not holding out for the £300 bribe
Most of our workers in our office are going to strike anyway, plus the £300 is a drop in the ocean compared with what we are going to lose if we do nothing and let them walk all over us

SPDOs can only work if the mail arrives from the main DO ... at least up our way ... so theoretically SPDO staff can turn up for work - and if there's no mail - what happens next ??Lounge Lizard wrote: Seriously though, how do they define 'office', like if there's not only a town Delivery Office with a hundred staff, most of whom are on strike, but also half a dozen SPDOs some of which continue working ?

Re: Withdrawal of £300 Pay Deal Lump Sum for Striking Office
I wonder if the people worrying about £300 ever gave a thought for those who were dismissed and lost a lot more than the £300 insult .The office i did work at would not stage a walk out for myself a 20 year postie who always helped and advise colleagues members or not .Yet these same selfish people walked twice after my dismissal for who yes your right 2 strike breakers! selfish and spineless thanks

Only walksort is likely to get to SPDOs, and that,s assuming the mail centres are staffed enough to get the job done. Last time I was only one to go out. Rest sorted and delivered and were finished within 3-4 hours. Strangely with all the extra time they were paid for doing nowt, my walk was left not prepped and obviously not delivered. On return, I requested overtime to complete and was refused, so cut off. Overtime given to a colleague(

This is standard management tactic after a strike, no o/t payed out to striking staff so they can't make up loss of pay.Lincox wrote:Only walksort is likely to get to SPDOs, and that,s assuming the mail centres are staffed enough to get the job done. Then the next step is they will pull you for your prep rate when you are not clearing the excess mail after a strike its the usual pattern
