B and h from a line manager
I've been keeping notes and times regarding line managers remarks ,and attitude towards myself . It's either go off sick or get sthing done about this ,what is my first step , should I take him aside and warn him if it doesn't stop etc?

Re: B and h from a line manager
I would strongly advise you don't confront him directly but arrange for the rep to organise a meeting at which the three of you are present and thrash out the problem.Chelseablue wrote:Thanks dvb if no joy there ill take it further as its affecting me at work now

Re: B and h from a line manager
whatever you do, dont inform the lino of anything, see your rep for a B n H form, copy all times and dates on, and description of whats happening, and present it to the DOM

Re: B and h from a line manager
Ideally you will need witnesses to the B&H which can back you up. Try to only have dealings with the manager in the presence of witnesses.

Re: B and h from a line manager
Chelsea, be sure that this is b&h and not procedural matters. If you are not happy with the way a manager is asking you to work,i.e flexibility, moving you around depots or walks etc then this would be regarded as procedural and would warrant a grievance rather than a b&h claim. If you are being discriminated against, harassed, intimidated, sworn at, man handled then a b&h applies, but be sure that you have witnesses or evidence that can be corroborated before you submit the application.
In the first instance, I would ask your union rep to agree a time to meet the DOM or if it is against the DOM to his superior, in order that you can submit your concerns. The DOM or superior should then take up your concerns with the perpetrator and try to resolve the problem prior to formal proceedings. If the problems continue then you should take up formal proceedings against the perpetrator.

Re: B and h from a line manager
You can't launch a B+H case about repeated small incidents and expect it to succeed unless you have warned the other party that you feel you are being bullied first. You need to 1) make the person AWARE you are feeling bullied 2) give them a chance to stop the offensive behaviour. Otherwise their defense will be 'I didn't know so and so was upset by what I was doing'. So you DO need to warn them first, then if it continues you have a sound case.
You don't have to see DOM or meet the manager with a rep. For a lot of people this would be too stressful in itself. You can if you want to though and it should work. Whatever you go with, DO NOT BE AFRAID to take this further. Taking a case further is FAR less stressful than living with the bullying day in day out. If your manager treats you badly for complaining, complain again, he could well be fired or moved on. RM at a senior level do treat bullying seriously.
