1 hour think tank - Mandatory or BS ?

I was on A/L last week but in WTL they came up with an idea called ThinkTank, or words to that affect, basically they pay you 1 hours OT to go in the canteen and think of ideas to improve the office.

Idea 1: Cancel the Think Tank.

They cannot make you work even one minute before, or after, your contracted 7.5 hrs.
This is just a lame attempt to con people into believing there are circumstances where compulsory overtime can be forced from people. It can't.

1 hour think tank. It's shyte like that has got us where we are today.

Never heard of it, they can make you attend in your duty time but if you have nothing to say then that's it really. I'd be full of ideas, they wouldn't do any of them.

At last weeks National Briefing we indicated that there may be some slippage on the Industrial Action timetable. We can now advise that a new timetable has been agreed as follows:


- Notice served on the 20th September 2013
- Ballot opens on the 27th September 2013
- Ballot closes Wednesday 16th October 2013

This weeks WTL, they said the ThinkTank is mandatory, across the country, and you HAVE to do it, ALL staff. You can either go into work 1 hour early and do it as OT, OR you will be made to stay behind one day after work, on a light day obviously. Anyone who refuses will be disciplined. Told them have nothing to say, no ideas about anything, and couldnt really give 2 franny jeffers, but I still have to do this.

Sounds like another, sit at back of room and fall asleep for an hour thing then! But then again my office hasn't even held a WPL for about half a year now!

Im betting its not mandatory and my offcie just wana go to HQ and say "look at our amazing office again, everyone had something to say"

It stinks to high heaven, along the same lines as we havent had an accident in about 7 years there all classed as incidents, and other nonsensical blabber. We are apparently the top office in the entire country on figures etc, and its all a smoke screen.

I don't know if he means staying when you get back on a light day (before your finish time) in which case you may have to stretch the day out then there is nothing they can do!

How about using the 30mins weekly national standard WTL for this "thinktank" unless other pressing issues arise?

Then at the end of it (which is why they rarely happen and they never last 30mins, depsite the work guideline "allowing" time fort them), suggest you more than likely need to cut off, or should that be cut off even more.

You could ask if its part of world class mail
And if they answer yes then explain your personal position on it-ie union/non union etc
We had a world class mail briefing recently

Was tragic for the poor manager explaining it

I've never heard of it.
I suppose as long as it's in duty time, then you will have to do as instructed.
But there's doing and DOING

If they ask for suggestions, make outrageous ones. Just go for it.
If they ask your opinion on a specific issue, don't say anything. Or again, make a stupid suggestion.
Tell them you need less managers, to save money....
Ask for free coffee & biscuits during WTLL.

If your office has some problems that others do, for example, struggling to book A/L, suggest changes to that.
Pretty much anything you think is annoying to them/beneficial to you. They'll soon stop asking you to attend.

My think tank idea is to abolish corruption when B&H are investigated, by introducing TRAINED INDEPENDANT UNBIASED people, NOT PAID BY ROYAL MAIL, to conduct them.
