Every member can warn everyone they meet not to buy Royal Mail shares because it will be re-nationalised like Railtrack was. Even if investors get get 6% dividend in the first year, the share price will drop far enough to wipe out this gain. Strikes will mean that re-nationalisation will take place very soon. Railtrack investors bought shares at 370p. They went down to 17p and the government had to pay out 262p in the end after expensive lawyers were hired by investors.

If 150,000 CWU members get the message across that anyone who buys Royal Mail shares is a mug, this might have an effect. There is nothing to lose by trying.

at the moment if mail is late or customer has a gripe they say we pay your wages your a service etc,

I would say, don't fight to protect eroded terms and conditions, fight to restore the terms and conditions of employment we once enjoyed.
Our terms and conditions of employment as they currently stand, have people genuinely doubting that we are a supposedly unionised industry. And I don't blame them.

It's ironic that a government keen to induce people to buy shares in a mail company, does not insist that all applications - for this particular privatisation - are made by post

So Railtrack shares at 370p down to 17p Likewise our £2,000 might soon be down to about £92. No matter, I don't really want them anyway.
