as it looks like that we can not stop privation of royal mail now surely we should as a union be pushing for only 49% of the company to be sold and the rest held by the government.
also has anyone else heard that all none union members have been told that they will have to attend work when the union has announced its strike days ?
should we not use this to are advantage to recruit new members and also for once go the full hog and only make deals for union members eg pay ?
Good idea enzio, that way me being a non union member would still be earning around £30 - £50 a week for doing around 3 or 4 D2D's instead of the £8 a week i get now ( don't forget £12 of that £20 we get was for early shift allowance)for doing 5 or 6. when you consider this has been for that past 3 years i reckon i'm about £4500-£ 5500 worst off.
yeah thanks cwu.

That's £8 a week more than Royal Mail wanted to give you in the first place. If you're not happy with the deals the cwu get for you (for free) then feel free to refuse any deal negotiated by them and either negotiate your own or accept what Royal Mail offer you.
Can you go round asking newish starts to join the union without fear of hassles from doms? We have a weak office ,cum in earles, runners etc ,its frustrating as hell.
These people seem to forget the sickness benefits that are paid if you are off work. The paid breaks. The IHR payments. The voluntary redundancy payments. Increase in annual leave award for longer service. Legal support for wrongful dismissal. Just a few of the benefits that CWU have negotiated on our behalfs, many of which are paid whether you pay subscriptions or not.
The doubters should try negotiating their own benefits with the likes of Moya Greene and Co and see what miserable terms and conditions they can get.
Chelsea, when newbies join, I believe the DOM as part of the induction day, should be introducing the newbies to the local rep in order that he can provide them with all of the information they need to make an informed choice of whether to join or not.

if you believe that with out a union you would be better off you are the sort of person that has f#### this job up the rest
if we did not have a union there would be no sick pay no pension no wage increase as we are on well above the minimum wage and zero hour contracts would rule.
I will admit that the union has lost it way a bit in the last couple of years but it is only as good as it members I for one am glad it is here and wish people like you would f### off because its people like you that have f#### the job.
sorry to disappoint you enzio but we live in a democratic society, and its freedom of choice to join a union or not. I was originally a member of CWU until about 4 years ago when union bullies (reps and members) at our office decided that they were going to tell me in no uncertain terms which way to vote.
luckily I am a strong person and will not be intimidated by anyone, union or management, and I sure wont be intimidated by your abusive language and threats, maybe that's just typical of your attitude to others. perhaps the union should take a long hard look at itself when it come to B&H.

if course Non Union members have to go into work!!!
always have and always will have to, it's only the union that is striking not the entire workforce.

It is my understanding that non union members have the same rights as those in the union, with regards to not working on official strike days.

Correct - if Royal Mail treat non union members any different to CWU members during Industrial Action then they would be acting illegally.
5. Non-union employees and strikes
You can ask non-union employees to cover work during a strike, as long as:
this is allowed by their employment contracts
you don’t discriminate against any employee directly or indirectly
Non-union staff and striking
If non-union members go on strike, they are protected from dismissal and have the same rights as union members, as long as the industrial action is lawful.
Agency staff
You can’t hire agency staff to provide temporary work cover during a strike.
Agency staff who are already in place as part of normal business can carry on as usual.
So non union members have the same choices as CWU members do. Strike or Scab its everyone's choice.
