I have just opened my free shares information and there is an opt out clause form in there, just out of interest, how many union reps (who are against privatisation) are going to send their opt out forms back saying "no thankyou i dont want any". It seems one way or another the privatisation will go through, so why not accept them, i will. Unless anyone can explain why i shouldnt

I am a union rep and I will be accepting them and so should everyone else, sending them back will mean nothing to RM bosses as all that will happen is those share that are allocated to those who refuse will get shared out to those who have accepted them.

I hope everyone accepts them and hopefully will be happy to give them back if Labour decide to re-nationalize the company should they get back in in 2015. ( I can live in hope can't I? )

I am however still waiting to receive my free share pack, perhaps being a rep means I won't be getting any anyway :)

If labour renationalised the Royal Mail they would still have to buy the the shares off you and give you the money as you would be the legal owner.

not correct, RM will hold your shares in trust for a minimum of three years, you will still get the dividend's paid out and then you can sell the shares or continue to keep them, therefor RM will get the money back from the government at the price they sold them at.

correct, but as the next general election is in May 2015 that will come before the three years has lapsed :)

so with it being within the 3 years for us to give the shares back for free when labour get in , what happens to every tom dick and harry who have bought the shares ? does that mean we would have s**t on again with shares.

No the government would have to buy them back at a market price and get agreement from shareholders

It's unlikely Labour will agree to renationalise Royal Mail by choice.
It is possible that the business could find itself in deep financial trouble again and faced with the possibility of bankruptcy a government might be forced to take it back into public ownership to protect the USO.
In that case like the Railtrack/Network Rail fiasco you could end up with next to nothing.

I won't accept them because:
Any dividend or increase in value will I believe , be a direct result of job losses and the degradation in terms of conditions of those that remain.
Do I want to stain my hands with that blood money? No thank you.
I don't own shares in any company. I don't subscribe to the share-owning democracy crap. I won't accept the bribe.

im a rep too, and i will take anything these bastards offer, as we get enough lies and bullshit every day

I was a rep but quite a few weeks ago due to many frustrations, being some of my members (the runners, the coming in early bragade and alike) also felt let down by my branch, and many other things i could go into but wont bother to mention why i quit, why would i not take the shares on offer? i understand standing up for your beliefs but i would be losing out while my so called members took the cash, to many people on here slaging the union and more important the local reps but looking after themselves, speak to the hand

Because the value of your shares will be dependant on anti-worker measures.
If your trade union principles can be bought off with the promise of the possibility of a couple of grand, then .......you can finish the sentence yourself.
