A hugely successful meeting of postal reps from across the country took place in Birmingham yesterday. Described by Dave Ward as a "defining moment", Dave explained the importance of securing a massive yes vote in the upcoming national strike ballot and the hard work ahead. Questions and contributions from reps showed a high level of support in the field and a commitment to campaigning hard in the coming weeks.

A live Q&A session on The Guardian website this week stimulated some great debate about the privatisation of Royal Mail. It was great to be a panellist and always good to have the opportunity to expose the Government's illogical argument for privatising a profitable business. It was also good to see that most of those participating in the forum, as with the BBC Question Time audience last night, were clearly against the sale and showed once again how unpopular the Government's plans to sell-off a beloved British institution are. At Congress this week TUC general secretary Frances O'Grady told the Government in no-uncertain terms to keep their hands off Royal Mail whilst delegates unanimously backed a motion seeking the support of all TUC affiliated trade unions against the sale of Royal Mail.


The union is taking its campaign to the LibDem Conference next week with a fringe meeting, hosted by The Guardian. With LibDem heavyweight Vince Cable, the Secretary of state who would ultimately sell the service, it's an ideal opportunity to challenge government thinking in their own backyard.


I will finish with an apology to workers in the telecoms and financial services industries. We're light on Telecoms and Financial Services news this week as the privatisation of Royal Mail and national strike ballot takes centre stage. That's not to say we're not committed, as always, to providing our members across all industries the best representation possible. Watch this space for updates on your industries in future weeks.

It went as these things always go,some common sense arguments,some patronising bullshit,some drum banging,tub thumping,chest beating....kind of thing.
Some Branch Officers promising the world while their reps know that it won't be the branch officers that have to deliver.
The problem is the same problem we've always had...some branches just talk the talk and some actually walk the walk.
To be honest HQ has had plenty of warning about useless branches and decided to do f**k all about it so on their heads be it,personally I'm sick of moaning about it.
