What's the ID situation for a new-starter

Hello,

I'm starting as a postie in a week, got an email from RM regarding contract and everything. They also said within this email "You will have been asked to provide your line manager with a good quality colour digital photograph for your Royal Mail photo identification. Please ensure you have done this".

I don't even know who my line-manager is because I haven't started yet, so this makes little sense.

Do I just turn up on the first day at the sorting office with this photograph? I believe you can't work without having I.D so not quite sure what I should do.

it took me almost 3 years to get my photo ID sorted so don't worry about it, just turn up and if they need a photo of you they will take one :)

There would be a lot of RM employees not working if that was the case...

Don't worry about it, as stated you line manager will ask you to pose for a pic (several times), and you still wont get an ID card

Very true.
I was asked why I wasn't wearing mine, told them it was out of date and invalid. They asked why I hadn't received a new one, because you as my manager are responsible for sorting it out, and have been doing so, apparently, for nearly two years.
That was 18 months ago, and I still don't have one.

The funny thing is, on the induction day, they make such a big deal about challenging people without I.D. yet they don't issue you a uniform for 3 months and hardly anyone has an I.D. card.

This is so 'Agency' staff can walk in while Xmas pressure is hammering us - Be asked if they're from the Agency, Answer in the affirmative and be taken straight to the Key-Locker, be given the Keys, a map and a Van full of packets and sent on their way.. All without being asked for any ID.. . True Story.

Bang on about H&S, but ignore it every minute of every day. You inform them of an issue, they promise to 'get back to you', and they never do, presumably hoping you forget about it.
They tell us to use trollies, but turn a blind eye when people don't, as the job gets done quicker without them. But when there is an incident, the blame is on you for not using correct equipment, and they'll deny any pre existing knowledge of you not using it.
