Not been on in a while . Heres my story .
3 years ago tore my ligament in left knee - off 3 month and rehab 3 month .
2 years ago tore meniscus in right knew - off 2 month and rehab 3 month .
Got both knees scanned each time and were confirmed torn but I didn't get surgery because it took so long to get the scan the knees were beginning to repair themselves .
Feb or March this year done BOTH knees on ice . Off for about 2 month and then brought in to see the " boss " . Asked what I want . eh ? Didn't know what he meant and was asked if I want compo or just leave or IHR . Choose IHR and 2 or 3 months later got lump sum .
FEEL BRILLIANT im out . Did enjoy the job and the guys in the office but at the end my legs were just so sore I just laid down on the couch when I got home and stayed there . That's no way to live .
Anyway the legs are stronger and im at the gym Mon - Fri and loving not working for RM which IMHO is just gonna get harder .

Hi Calpsy ,I leave a few months ago on IHR also, I go for a bike ride most days starting to feel like a proper human being again ,after living on painkillers,also tossing and turning each night trying to get comfortable in bed now I get a decent nights sleep happy days

good for you it's a sad situation when staff feel better of by leaving the company and I myself have seen this with two close friend with plenty of time in and left ...they now have a smile on there face and a life

It's threads like these that hammer home, just how bad the job of a postal worker on deliveries has become.

Congratulations from me too. Life in Royal Mail just getting worse and worse over the last few years. I miss my mates there but I don't miss working there in the least.

I don't know what this guy get but we do get 34 weeks tax free. (13,600 pounds if your pay is £400 p/w before tax)

I left RM two years ago on IHR. I feel much better. No more being stressed out and in pain every day. I do miss the job sometimes, but when It gets too much I come back on here and read a few posts and it reminds me of how much better off I am.
Only drawback as been I've been unable to find another job. Sales and care homes seem to be the only jobs on offer round here. Trick is to make do with less money. If you can manage that (and being debt free, I can), you can live a fairly decent life.

Thanks for all the good wishes . It really is good to be out but sad in some ways .
TBH I was walking away one day saying im finished and it was the union bloke that told me to go on the sick . He said " well youre just gonna leave anyway so you might as well get some money outta them " so I called in sick the next morning and the rest is history . A lot of people might think I don't deserve it BUT the job has knackered my knees and the way I look at it is if I never took the job on my knees would be fine .
Again thanks for the good wishes . I hope the job gets better when you are bought over but cant see that happening and hope those who want out GET out and hopefully with some money .
I was part time and didn't get £400 p/w before tax and walked away with just shy of £13,000 . The extra was holiday pay and Leave In Lieu .
