Help on Overtime please

Hi everyone I have recently had an interview for the RM for a postie role. I have wanted to do this for ages now the only thing is it a 25 hour contract. It seems that there are no FT positions at all and I was just wondering if I was willing to do as much overtime as I can would the work be there to regularly get up to 40 hours. I would love the job only I would struggle to support my family on 25 hours and I currently have a job. I have heard a couple of different things but would really like some advice from the people that know. Thanks in advance. (Ps I can drive and have offered to.)

Good that you can drive as that is a plus these days. Depends on what office you go to as some have lots of extra but some have very little. This can also be down to your manager who may or may not have his favourites to do overtime. Difficult decision you have to make as it will be a bit of a gamble for you. Also it's 39 hours at most delivery offices for full time. Good luck as its a great job in my opinion..

No guarantees for that much overtime per week. Me, I do it when it's available as much as I can. Any loyalty is one way and as soon as they get budgetary hassles from on high you're back down to a flat week and in the red st the bank after a week or two.

Don't budget your money around getting overtime every week as you most likely wont. Offer to work your day off and that should be at least another 5 hours a week but I would suggest you sometimes have your day off as you'll be knackered doing 6 days a week especially coming to the colder parts of the year.

Also consider asking your boss if you can work your day off... bumps the pay packet up a bit and means they dont have to cover you. Overtime should build up after you learn other routes, collections and deliveries but dont bank on it every week, sometimes it could be one extra shift or 3 or 4! And ofc don't do so much you wreck yourself lol

other things to consider is that your holiday pay would be paid at 25 not your average, and you will nearly always be given bank holidays as your day off, yes you can book it later and work it, but as above, don't rely on 30+ hours pay every week,
we have 25's on rolling contacts with 2-3 years service who do mid/late 30 hours every week and will not given permanent contacts at 34/39
and unless you're fit, working a 6 day week + extra will be really tiring.
