Restructure by stealing my pension, making me work longer and harder , with more mail and for less wage (£30 a week less in reality not because of RRP) . If you think its easy do a Thursday or Friday before you start lay into posties.

I've got a real job thanks, one I used to be proud of. Yes there are people out there who let us down, but they are a minority and always get caught (eventually).

I'm not hiding behind my union, they help me when I'm forced to do things I don't want to do, such as accept a lesser pension for which I have worked many years for and thought would be worth the same value when I retired. My union helps me when I have difficulties and I have respect for them for sticking up for my rights. Not like other companies where they have no union and seem happy to swallow anything they are given by their managers.

I don't expect to have my pockets lined after every shift, I expect a livable wage so I can feed my family. I expect to be paid within reason for the work I do. That work includes sorting mail, examining mail to make sure my customers are happy that their redirections, keepsafes and other items are dealt with correctly. I deliver the mail in all weather conditions and I enjoy my job, but I won't accept having to work randomly during the day (an extra 2 hours here or there) for nothing. Because my family comes first like most people and I won't have my hours messed about with.

Until you have done deliveries for a month, don't be too quick to judge how easy it is to just "walk down a road and open a gate then post the letter". This job involves local knowledge and if you are on 5 different walks per week (as floating duties are) then you need the knowledge of all 5 walks to get you through the week. If you're a reserve, you are thrown hither and thither onto any walk (say for example out of 200 walks in the office, you may well end up doing them all eventually) and will need to use your head a lot more to make sure that you do the job properly and efficiently.

Casuals, who are most likely part of the problem, are not always trained properly and end up making us trained posties look bad. No disrespect to them, they come to do a job like all of us, but RM won't train them properly and will expect them to walk round without a map for hours on end, sometimes finishing as late as 8 or 9pm and getting no thanks for that.

And this brings me to your point about "there are alot of people who would be glad of your wages for the work you do", they would be casuals on 25 hour contracts, which are actually 40 hour duties. So not enough hours to do the job, but expected to do 40 hours work in 25. If we leave as you expect us to do, to go get another job, then that is what you will end up with, a casualised workforce who don't care about the customers like we do. We're not all militants wanting the world to change our way, we actually care about the business. We've seen the changes we've had in the past 10 years and they've made the job harder and more exasperating.

We are happy to go with restructuring of the business, but it would be easier if they involved us from the start, so that we could work together instead of having to strike to get a reasonable deal. We have the skills and knowledge of the areas we deliver to and if we were treated with dignity and respect (a big thing at Royal Mail, or so they "say") then we would be able to improve the service and go along with the needed changes to move the business forward.

Unfortunately, Royal Mail aren't that great at planning and listening to their staff, so we end up where we are now, losing wages, losing money for our families, because they won't engage us properly, and help us help them move the business forward for the future.

i will lower myself for once
pockets lined with gold,i think not our wage is less than costco and many others pay per hour,o/t rates are less than our hourly rates
proper hours.i start at 0400 most days and finsh at 1500 mon to fri,saturday about an 8 hour day,on avarage 65 to 70 hrs a week,if im lucky i eat as im driving and may get one proper break in a week,thats only an avarage estimate many weeks have been much longer
glad of the work we do.3 out of 5 new starters dont last a week,the last 2 we had didnt even make the first day
we dont hide behind the union they represent us,its called collective barganing,if you had any friends or family not locked up you could try it
minimum wages are set to prevent slavery amongst younger workers,if thats what you get then more fool you

Who said Royal Mail has to restructure to survive? Why don't you pop along to the postcomm website and you will find that they say this " The universal service remains profitable and is being provided to a very high quality of service."

If thats the case why is our terms and conditions being eroded?

Why don't you write a full complaint to Royal Mail boss's Messieurs Leighton and Crozier. I am sure you'll get tea and sympathy from them.
