Just watching the news and noticed 2 different postmen working there. So does anyone know how many postmen work there and what do they do??

My mate used to work the House Of Commons,he said that most of the MP'S would acknowledge him when he said Good Morning/Afternoon,Allan Johnson would ignore him.

More of a postroom I think. They despatch mail posted in Houses of Parliament, and deliver mail internally.

Yes, but with Crown Post Offices in both Lords and Commons.

There is a post room , a crown office within the HOC. The staff who work in their also deliver and collect work from some of the other Government buildings such as Nornan Shaw north and South.

The House of Commons gets about 16 deliveries per day from the SW1 office. The South West 1 office simply sorts the MPs letters to the letter of their surname. The House Of Commons staff then sort it to indivdual MPs and deliver the work. When the House used to sit during the nights then the staff use to have to be their as well. MPs get free mail and the post room have to sort that work as well. When the House is not sitting all the MPs work has to be redirected to their local area.

Royal Mail have just won the tender for another 2 years. The Sargent in Arms every two years puts the contract out to tender and Royal Mail along with others have to bid to keep the tender.

It used to be a great job and some still think it is, but when I use to deliver their 25 years ago it was a dream job.

The other job which is probably the best Postman's job in Royal Mail is the Queens postman job whose role is to travel where the Queen goes and plenty of overtime and the only Postman's job not covered by the working time directive !!!

I've been down there and had a very brief chat with some of them. They were quite concerned about TNT's delivery trial. Must say, though, it looked like a very good deal with a roof over your head all day
