CWU Local Representatives National Forum – 12th September 2013 Birmingham International Conference Centre


Following a number of enquiries about release arrangements for the above mentioned Forum, we can confirm that Royal Mail have now written to the Union granting paid release for this event.


We understand that Royal Mail Headquarters is currently in the process of advising its Managers of this announcement.


Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.

Our bus leaves the mailcentre at 0430 on thursday morning,It gets back "hopefully" at 2200.
With my own travelling time to and from the mailcente it will be an 18 and a half hour day.

yes you can do as its not hard work sat on your arses , try walking the streets for 6 hours delivering mail , for some union rep who hasn't got the balls to answer your texts or phone calls over being forced over your time and not getting paid for it . easy life.

I think reps should go to these briefings, I just don't think RM should have any input. The managers have been attending a privatision pep talk where they have been told their jobs are safe and not to worry that WPCs will be increased 3 fold - even the manager training the lead pillars was concerned for his future.

My understanding is that if we wanted a national briefing then Moya had to have a slot. Personally I want to see what she has to say.

Isn't it because moya is paying for it giving them time off. But maybe if they had it on a Sunday maybe they could have had it on there own

Seriously out of order. You are tarring all reps with the same brush as the ones you have met (a pet hate of mine) . Fishtank is a workplace rep, so not full time release, and gives of his own free time on here. He is the type of rep that we need to applaud and support, not to be lumped in with a narrow experience of someone who probably hasn't been outside his own unit. GGMS.

.... and people wonder why its hard to get volunteers to be reps, and then retain them, with an attitude like yours its a wonder we have the Union at all. Try telling the difference between the good and bad it makes life less complicated.

Also if I may posit sometimes a bad rep is a sign of bad office. Not even the best rep in the world can do it all by themselves, so god help the ordinary joes.

hold on a minute does a rep support his members ? he is the AREA rep with a duty in our office and can count on 1 hand the times hes in the office and done his duty , and he doesn't tell anybody jack s**t wont answer phone so where else do you get advice, so yer if that's what you get off them is it worth having a union. deal of the century comes to mind in the last ia.

Thats fine you can moan about your rep till the cows come home, you have personal dealings with him, and if he is s**t then he is s**t.

However, the mistake you made, and the one I jumped on was you replied to Fishtank post and went off on one. He is not a full time release rep and he is doing 5 - 6 hour deliveries as he is a Unit rep.

If you hadn't quoted his post, and had made it clear you were on about your own reps that would have been fine, but you didn't and it looks like you accused him of not answering his phone or replying to texts. One thing for sure is a Unit Rep he does not have an easy life.
