Hi I have been a 'spare' postman for 5 years. I don't know if what I am about to try and explain is a nationwide RM policy or not, but I am under the impression that as a 'spare' then I am not entitled to as many Saturdays off as someone with their own round. Can someone clarify to me how many Saturdays off I am contracted to have off over a six week period? I am currently involved in a non RM legal issue at the moment and knowing how many Saturdays I am supposed to have off would be of a great help.

OK thanks for that. Another query is, Could I have a Saturday off say this weekend and the next Saturday off could potentially happen 2 weeks later? As long as the next Saturday does not happen until 6-7 weeks later?

You are entitled to as many Saturdays off as your walkholder colleagues.
1 in 4 or 1 in 6, whatever it is in your office.
As a reserve it won't be a rota'd day off and as you suggest you might get 2 in a row and then none for several weeks.
However if for instance, you had a court order stipulating you had your children every 6 Saturdays, then RM may well have to comply with it.

I was told, "As you work most Saturdays, we're being fair and giving you the Tuesday off for a Long Weekend..." ( Post Bank Hol Monday)
Guess what day I USUALLY get off? Yep, Tuesday!!!
Seems like Im doing the bulk of lates on Saturdays. At my last count, I was getting 1 in 8 Off over an 80 week period.
Not even close to the 1 in 4 Agreement, is it?!
Gonna have to get this sorted out.

Pretty much what I am doing now. I wanted a Saturday off beginning of October, was told that cos I'm a spare then I am not allowed, but we have a good bloke doing the work rota so he got me on a round that had the Saturday as its rest day. Is funny how bulk of my rest days occure on a Tuesday. Nothing to do with it being the lightest day?

If a postie gets a lot of Tuesdays off, that postie will end up working more hours than other posties that gets rotating days off...
