Re: Freedom of Information Act Request (Our Reference: KFEN-9AD9R9)

I am writing in response to your request for information dated 06 August 2013 which has
been considered under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. You requested
the following information:

1. Percentage or number of staff on a 39 or above hour contract.
2. Percentage or number of staff on a contract below the above.
3. A breakdown of the ratios of the above in regional form.
4. A breakdown of the ratios of the above in Postcode sector form. (ie WD, RG, SW.)

In response to points one and two of your request I can confirm 69.56% of Royal Mail
Group’s employees are employed on 39 hour or above contracts. The remaining 30.44%
are employed on less than 39 hour contracts.

Point three of your request asks for the information to be provided broken down by region.
The table below identifies the percentage of individuals employed on 39 hour or above
contracts and those employed on less than 39 hour contracts broken down by region.

Region 39 Hours and over Under 39 Hours
East 13.41% 5.52%
West 10.84% 5.07%
South-West 10.70% 4.46%
South East 15.17% 3.88%
North 11.71% 6.25%
Non-Regional 7.72% 5.26%

Final y point four of your request asks for the information to be broken down by postcode
area. The table provided in Annex 1 to this response identifies the percentage of individuals
employed on a 39 hour and above contract and the percentage of those employed on a
contract of below 39 hours broken down by postcode area. The postcode area information
is based on the postcode area individuals work in.

I hope the information provided is useful to you. If for any reason you are not satisfied with
this response, you do have the right to request a review. If you wish to do so please set out
in writing your grounds of appeal and send to the Head of Information Rights at the above
address. An internal panel will then review the request, and you will be advised of the
outcome.

If you decide to appeal and are still not satisfied with our response you also have a right to
appeal to the Information Commissioner at:

Well what do you know - the 75/25 split is actually 70/30 and although that is informative I wonder what the breakdown in delivery staff is. It also explains the new terminology of "predominantly full time" which has crept in. Well I've looked at the enclosure but I'm not exactly certain I understand it - the %age values seem not to make sense1 :hmmmm

Had a problem with that one myself DV, but then realised that the 69.56% of full time staff is broken down into the regions, so therefore gives you no idea in percentage terms of full time staff to part time staff for each region. Similarly with the part time staff the total region percentages add up to the 30.44%

The actual figures for frontline staff are worse than they look.
These are the overall figures for RMG employees.
10% of RMG employees or around 15,000 are managers and almost all of them are full-time on paper.
If you take them out of the mix and stick to CWU represented grades the ratio would be closer to 65/35.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

You see Lincox I really am as numb as a pisstone :chuckle I get it now - but it's not much use in that format - we know the ratio in deliveries outside London is much less than the 70/30 touted.

So looking at it realistically we already have a two tier system which the union are now trying to defend against - well they haven't been able to defend the 75/25 so what are the chances of making a fist of the two tiers? Who knows when the 0 hours contracts will start rolling out?

Well logistics staff only work 36.25 hours a week so we would be included in the part time figures. 2500 of us..

Ok my maths may not be the best so will correct me if im wrong.

If you have 0.67% FT and 0.11% PT would that not work out to be 85.8974358974359% FT?

I used http://www.math.com/students/calculator ... ercent.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to work it out if that helps.

in order to extrapolate the raw data from the list, you need to have some base references to work from
1 total number of emplyee's within RM ( approx 150,000 - use that as a starting number )
2 # of FT employees 69.56 % (104340 emplyee's )
3 # of PT employees 30.44 % (45660 emplyee's )

So a postcode area with say 0.67 ft & 0.11 pt would be ....

0.67% of 104340 = 699 FT employee's
0.11% of 45660 = 50 employee's

Lets keep it simple and round things up....... call it 700 ft & 50 pt

700 / 50 = 14

so rounded up .......14% are PT and 86% are FT

Exactly as dmfco said........
