I am to start a new duty tomorrow,
i have never done it before and have not been trained on it, knowing the position i am in that i cant claim overtime if i go over my time and wont know how long it will take me. I am basically wondering if there's anything to say that when doing a duty for the first time it will normally take you a little bit longer until you learn the duty properly and get up to speed that i should have support?
Am i expected to be at full speed first time. I have heard the duty is bang on once u know what your doing and where your going but will probably take me about 30 mins extra for a week or so until i learn it .Bit of a maze.
Is it management negligence to say i should be expected to do this first time on time and i wont get overtime if it takes me longer. Shouldn't i get a bit longer or something? Anything in the way forward or anything?

Re: New duty
Tell the manager you won't complete without OT prior to departure.
If he/she is so stupid as to not see that anyway then that's their problem.
Get the Rep to see them with you if you can. Ask for training. If they say no, tell them it will take even longer.
If they refuse OT, ask them what they want you to do with the remaining mail at you finishing time, bring it back or take to a PO for return.

Re: New duty
Cant , manager and cwu has put it in writing that i should require no extra time to learn a new duty without training. and defends his position that i wont get paid overtime if i go over my time. Should i just bring the mail back.

I always thought it was common knowledge that when you learned a new duty it will take you a little bit longer?

Re: New duty
No but i asked the cwu and they said there is nothing they can do they cant force the dom to give me a little bit more time to do a duty for the first time.
All of the other part timers come in early do you think they are trying to pressure me to follow suite? it seems impossible to do in the time scales.

Re: New duty
If you have it in writing, then I personally would file a grievance and attach a copy (keep the original) of the document as evidence.
It always takes longer to learn a new job, and you should always be paid for the hours you work.
Tell the manager you want OT, or ask what to do with the mail you won't have time for. If he/she gives you an instruction you are uncomfortable with/disagree with, ask for it in writing.
Is there not someone there who you can trust to witness these conversations? A friend with experience?

Re: New duty
I cant beleive theres no common sense in that when hes on a duty for the first time that he should get a bit more time weather if he needs it or not? And then told he wont get overtime if he goes over regardless
