Going sick on a SA day

First of all i will say in my office we work Mon - Fri with Sat as SA day. We do not have a rotating day off.
Ok, i rang in sick on Sat and spoke to the usual lady who then passes the message on to the Dom (this is what always happens).
I then get a letter later in the day saying due to failing to attend for SA i will be removed from SA for 1 month and will have a rotating rest day instead.

Is this allowed to happen? Bearing in mind i havn't gone sick on a SA day in over 6 years! Plus the norm is to get a letter stating if you fail to attend on 3 SA days in a year then your SA day gets changed to a different day. Thats fair enough and i don't have a problem with that procedure, so why am i made to feel like the office scapegoat and be penalised as mentioned above?

Union rep has told me to attend work as normal untill he receives further notice from the area manager, and if he won't overturn it then he will put in a grievance!

Is there a local agreement gathering dust in a file cabinet somewhere? Those usually spell out how many days you can miss. The mail centres where I've worked have had lesser penalties for where you've notified the office in advance.

I was once off on annual leave for a week and nobody even noticed and failed to remove me from the S.A. list (there's only 5 of us on S.A. in an office of 23 people!!)... resulting in a whole collection not getting done one evening, they tried pinning the blame on me in the follow up investigation!

I once got a phone call while on A/L in Spain asking why I hadn't shown up for OT.
