Post it pegs
I see in this months propaganda sheet that there is an article on post it pegs and how it saved a posties hand, which is good, no-one wants to see a colleague lose a finger(s).
When I read it, it took me back the WTL we had, we were told to use it if we knew there was a dog behind the door, Ok fair enough, on my walk there are about 30 dogs, we were also told that if we were bitten after being issued with said posting peg that we couldn't claim compensation off Royal, Mail, due to the provision of said post it peg.
So me being the bright spark in the office asked for a bagful, I got a quizzical look from the DIM who said I could only have one, OK I said I get to the first house where there is a dog, and I use the post it peg, said dog grabs peg and pulls it through the letter box, Yes he said, well says I, there are another 29 dogs on my walk, so if I lose my post it peg, I will have to come back to the office to get another, which takes a 20 min trip each way, and I will have to get the van driver to give me a lift.
Dim looks at me and says, NO! you carry on doing your walk as normal, and get a new peg when you have finished and returned to the office, you'll just have to be be careful for the rest of the walk, But says I, I will no longer have the necessary to enable me to complete my duty ! Dim looks at me, grunts and walks away, I look at the rest of the lads and they are all quietly smirking.
Is it me ?

Or you could endorse the mail and return it as delivery point unsafe due to lack of tools.
Said tools being at office.

In which case you don't deliver to the other houses with dogs as per risk assessment. Petty it might be, but your fingers can be used for more than this job.

Re: Post it pegs
Petty it is not. Royal Mail do EVERYTHING to protect themselves. Do the same yourself. (I know you were giving good advice - not a rant at you).resperin wrote:In which case you don't deliver to the other houses with dogs as per risk assessment. Re: Post it pegs
It's not the dogs that are making a noise/attacking the door that is the problem, it's the ones sitting quietly that take you by surprise...........like going into a garden and on the way out you find the dog standing there.......eyeballing your nuts as a quick snack

Re: Post it pegs
Best answer I have seen on RMC with regards to post-it-pegs was given way back on April (19th) 2012 posted by Himaggen which said the following:Lateagainpostie wrote:I see in this months propaganda sheet that there is an article on post it pegs and how it saved a posties hand, which is good, no-one wants to see a colleague lose a finger(s).

The purpose of a posting peg, (not dog peg), is for additional intervention where it is not possible to insert mail without your finger(s) also being inserted.
If you know there is a dog hazard, do not deliver the mail, it is the dog owners responsibility to remove the hazard, not yours to endanger yourself by attempting to work around it using warnings or pegs.

Not wishing to take this topic off in a different direction but ....
I've always thought you should use a post peg for every single delivery you make, excluding external mail boxes. How do you know when somebody has brought a new dog? Maybe a rescue dog with issues.
Since I have been in my current house I have brought two dogs, both Cocker Spaniels, neither dangerous. Royal Mail were totally unaware of this!

Re: Post it pegs
Unless you need to put your fingers through the letter box to ensure the mail goes through, then you don't need to use a posting peg.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Not easily done Clash. Not without folding the letters for strength etc. The draft excluders on letter boxes seem to be getting stronger and stronger.clashcityrocker wrote:Unless you need to put your fingers through the letter box to ensure the mail goes through, then you don't need to use a posting peg.
