My current duty (Van Share) is very hilly and also has a very busy main road running through the middle of it. I've done many risk assessments before and believe it would be dangerous to use the LWT as the trolley rolls down the hill and there is no crossing on the road so the only way to get across is to get to the middle, wait and then cross.

What other options are there for this problem?

I haven't told managers but I know the answer they'll give me.

What if you put the trolley sideways?

When our office went thru Methods Revision I managed to keep a few bikes simply for the reason mentioned

You'd be blamed - there is a leg which acts as a brake if you use it as described in the SSOW.

It topples if the weight isn't very well balanced, so we don't use them in hilly areas (break the loop down to manage).

The "brake" acts as a pivot on a hill so pulls the trolley over. I'm talking about a hill similar in gradient to a multi-storey car park ramp.

The road has a crossing which won't safely fit myself and my trolley without one of us being in the road.

Don't use the trolley. Cut down the size of the loop and carry. Unsuitable terrain is one of the justifications for hefting a bag (within certain weight limits!)

Put your recommendation in through your union rep in writing if no union rep photo copy it and get it stamped at the local post office then you are covered if anything bad happens. PS hand them one copy stamped at the same time as yours.

Well this is a new one on me

It proves you have give them notice of a potential hazard so if the worst happened lost your job or taken to court it show's you made all reasonable steps to inform them at that date if you put your concerns in writing it is at the end of the day evidence!
