Returning From Career Break during revision - Help

Post by mucker161 »

Hi I wasn't 100% sure where to post my problem so thought here would be the best Forum.

I have returned to work for Royal Mail after taking a career break to travel the world. I've had 6 years employment prior to my career break and therefore was told that I would hold my seniority whilst away and still have it once I return. Whilst on my travels I was contacted as to which duty I would be signing for as the revision process was taking place within the office. I chose a certain duty to which I was more than capable of doing and also was getting improved hours of 32 instead of my normal 25 hours per week.

I have now been back in employment since the start of May 2013 and I both A) have no set duty, and B) my hours are still at 25 per week. Now I am more than grateful to still have a job within the company but surely I have a case to answer? There are other employees in the DO who are below me on the seniority list who have had their hours improved to 30 and 32 respectively which only adds insult to injury. I am a hard worker and do more than 10 hours overtime per week just to try keep the wolf from the door.

I have had numerous discussions with the DOM regarding the issue and all I hear is 'we are looking into it' and 'Belfast have been phoning about your hours'. To be quite honest I feel like i'm being treated like a piece of $h@*# and i'm growing more and more frustrated at the fact that this is being turned into a ling drawn out problem. There is no Union rep within the office and I haven't heard any word back from the Union head for my area.

Can anyone help me in this matter?

please and thanks in advance

Looking at the bold lettering, how was this information relayed to you? If it was in writing you are onto a winner, :wave :wave

It was via Skype/phone that I was contacted. I'm currently working overtime to bulk my hours up but seriously considering doing my contracted 5 hours per day til this is sorted out

Did you not receive a revised contract/ or anything like the change to your hours? The obvious move is to put in a Grievance, but you need to start gathering as much evidence as poss in your defense :wave :wave
All these issues SHOULD be sorted before the PIR is signed off

No mate didnt receive a revised contract as of yet, have dug a little and have found that I was contacted via a Facebook message from the then union rep within the office, now Phg. Starting to get pissed off about the whole situation if I'm honest
