How about trying to work, instead of being like so many other posties I know (and have utmost disrespect for) who seem to be only in it for a few/many days off here and there (often just before holiday/rota week).

Whatever happened to work culture - seems to go out of the window after a heavy Sunday night etc etc ...

on a 12 month rotating basis 3 absences total not exceeding 13 days.

There is no need for him to do that. You assumed something and that affected your reply. My advice is never to Assume it makes an ASS out of U and ME. He only wanted facts not an opinion you chose to post an opinion, so the only person that was in the wrong is.......

In this case I've jumped on something that DOES hit a nerve with me - the thought of cadging an "iffy day off" - or phoning in sick on the Saturday before your holiday week/rota week - because it DOES HAPPEN - and you all know it ...

In this case I've jumped in and inadvertently 'attacked' someone who did not deserve it - now I know the full sp - fair cop - so I do apologise in this particular instance ...

Well Done for the apology Bagman Can appreciate your "Pet Hate". Used to have a old guy in our DO who used to keep a calendar of his "Sickies". Once he'd figured out how many he had left, that year, he'd go sick as a sort of unofficial holiday!

Shot himself in the foot one year....he'd taken all his "Sickies/Extra Holidays", and guess what? Yeah he injured himself and had to go genuinely sick...tripped the stage 1 warning. PMSL couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

How come useless tossers get kept on year after year, warning after warning in this business and genuine workers with a good attitude just get shat on?

When I joined RM - "working your Whitleys" (using "free" sick days as extra annual leave) was one of the first things the local CWU rep explained to you. Mind you, he always told you to keep a few days back in case you were really sick!

Whatever other people do or don't do is none of your business unless it affects you directly, if somebody goes sick for a bit of extra time off I say good on em, the way this company treats its staff we all deserve that break, I'm certainly going for it.

So - you condone "unauthorised absence" then ? My "argument" here is that someone has to pick up the slack - 10 times out of 10 it's lastminute.com as well - and it's usually the part-timers/floaters that get buggered about - maybe IT IS fair game with the way RM treat their staff - I just get on with it (back to work ethic ? - I'm an old git who has it) ... and claim docket where required ...

Yeah I understand the idea behind "taking one" - but I often think of the young boy who cried "wolf" ...
