A question about Overtime

Post by bigtony »

Hi my name tony I'm a deputy rep.

I have a question about Overtime, I have asked a few reps and there is some different views. currently from what i understand
there is no set rules on any overtime other then the local agreements.

My Question is around maintaing earnings and dose that include overtime or just your contracted hours.

I have members that pick up 4 hours a day every day and have been doing so since before i started 10 years ago.

Iv just been told that its going to be taken away from them by fully staffing our office and also one day staff have preference over the full time staff because they can do the job at the time they need them to. Seniority has always been there does that not apply?

Can anyone confirm any rights i have for pro-venting this from happing as my rep inset's me that the cwu rules on overtime don't apply to maintaing peoples earnings.
Lastly is there any body who has a rule book they could send me a copy of.
thanks

The part about maintaining earnings includes overtime. But.....
Any revision of the office should be put to a vote. Consequently it should be for the office to decide if they want to create jobs and help get some unemployed people back to work or protect the overtime of a handful of middle-aged men.
I know which side I would expect my union to be backing.
For every 2 of your colleagues that pick up 4 hours/day that is a full-time job you can create.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Well said Clash :Applause ......but do you really expect any different attitude, from what I personally consider to be, a predominately selfish workforce? If any of you can put your hand on your heart and say "I consider the well being of my fellow Posties and would like us ALL to be treated equally, and fairly" then good for you. :Applause However in my experience those type of people are sadly few, and far between.

Thanks for your replays. I think all union representatives should be inclined to ask any questions that the union members put forward.
Its the union representatives job to listen to its members and act on there behalf not to make decisions for them. So there interests come
before any member not in the union.

But that's very unlikely when they can create 2 temp part time jobs instead and string the poor sods along on rolling 3 month contracts.
