Manager & postie checking van

Was told at one of our latest daily huddle that a manager will accompany posties
when they are doing their weekly check of their van.
What are the legal implications if a van is involved in an accident due to something
that should have been picked up on the check or is
found faulty later that day. Are both manager & postie liable?
If that is the case then I don't think our manager has thought this through.

If "a manager will accompany posties when they are doing their weekly check of their van" then this suggests we are not competent in doing such checks and so they should not form part of our duties.

i just base van check's the same way they do at the mot the van was sound at the time i checked it anything that happens after i checked it is not my problem

Ha! managers doing van checks? what an eye opener that would be, are we really allowing our postmen to go out on deliveries in these death traps? surely not!,I can here them cry .They will be so embarrassed. We all know the vans take a pounding in day to day deliveries, and the workshops over run with repairs, and often come back in the same state, years ago we had a mobile mechanic that came to the office 1st thing and fixed any faults we had there and then, oh what fun progress is as that service was working far too well and was stopped, we were even told how to fill the log book in properly, as we do but workshops fail to do there bit and don't bother,
