CWU Local Representatives National Forum – 12th September 2013 Birmingham International Conference Centre

The purpose of this LTB is to advise Branches that the Union will be holding a National Forum for all CWU Local Representatives within the Royal Mail Group on Thursday 12th September 2013. This Forum will take place at the Birmingham International Conference Centre and will commence at 11am and conclude no later than 3pm.

The Postal Industry is facing unprecedented challenges and the Agenda will reflect all the key issues we are currently dealing with including National Talks and our current dispute, privatisation, pensions and the company’s future strategy.

The Forum has been agreed with the company and normal release arrangements will apply. Any travel or subsistence costs will be proper to CWU Branches.

The meeting will also be addressed by Moya Greene, the Chief Executive of Royal Mail and there will be an opportunity for a short round table Q&A Session.

Please ensure the attached invite letter is immediately forwarded to all CWU Local Representatives including those in Parcelforce. A Final Agenda will be circulated closer to the event.

CWU LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES’ NATIONAL FORUM – 12TH SEPTEMBER 2013


We are pleased to invite you to a CWU Local Representatives National Forum which is being held at the Birmingham International Conference Centre on Thursday 12th September 2013. The Forum commences at 11am and will conclude no later than 3pm.

The Agenda will cover the issues that are affecting the future of the Postal Industry including an update on National Talks and our current dispute, privatisation, pensions and the company’s future strategy.

The meeting will also be addressed by Moya Greene, the Chief Executive of Royal Mail and there will be an opportunity for a short round table Q&A Session.

The release for these meetings has been agreed nationally with Royal Mail and any enquiries you may have about travel arrangements etc should be addressed to your CWU Branch Secretary.

A Final Agenda will be issued closer to the event.

Why is Moya there? I would have thought it was an ideal time to galvanise the Reps into geeing up the troops for the ballot, not letting Moya give her two pennorth on the benefits of privatisation - of which we have already heard enough. One question I would ask is "why do RM want a no strike agreement if the land of milk and honey is just a sell off away, and if a unit finds itself at odds with local management over matters totally divorced from the current disagreements why would they be excluded from a share issue - should one take place"

it seems to me that the cwu are stalling the ballot for I/a why, they no whats going on in all the offices b/h etc , wasn't there a rep meeting on the 2nd of sept ? now the 12th sept , while gov push forward to get it done.

We must assume that the 12th Sep meeting has no bearing on the announcement by the PEC on the ballot timetable to be announced on the 2nd Sep.

I'm beginning to wonder if the leadership has the stomach for a fight - it would be a disgrace if the same sell out happened again, more especially that the architect of the sell off is being allowed to address the reps - in my opinion purely to undermine a yes vote.

That statement must surely echo across the membership music, there's already a negative feeling on the shop floor - like get the KY ready and I'm just waiting for the shafting - I don't think the members believe that the case as put by the CWU is winnable.

The union has to focus on engaging reps for the battle ahead so they can in turn return to their units to engage the members.
You don't have a Q&A company propaganda session with the boss in the middle of that,that would be stupid.

maybe a certain poster on here will explain the rational behind it but theres only one thing that scares me more than privatisation and thats silence and head scratching from the CWU

Inviting Moya Greene to speak at such an event is an insult to CWU members who are currently striking/balloting against the very things that she represents and supports!

Up-til now, dispite being shafted over the last three agreement's, I was begining to come around to the idea of supporting the upcoming strike dispite my reservations

BUT this takes the biscuit....Its a NO on my ballot paper

We are just about to enter a period where we will ballot the members. Why would we not accept an opportunity where We allow Royal Mail pay for the release of every rep in the uk to attend a meeting with their union ? In order to secure that having Moya Greene for a slot at that meeting is a small price to pay. The CWU will have the rest of the meeting to speak in private to every unit rep at the same meeting. This has never been done before. I can't believe Royal Mail have agreed this but it is ideal postion for the CWU to speak to every rep.
