I have recently been made up from 30 hours to full time. Before this I had my own duty but it was obviously only p/t. Now I have been made up I have become a lead reserve and my seniority of the full timers and other lead reserves is rock bottom which means that if the other departments in our office need spare people, I'm the first to go.
I didn't realise this would be the case when I signed up to full time, and was told I would still be in the dept I'm supposed to be in but since the change I've been told regularly to change Dept's. I'm grateful for the full time position but don't enjoy having to work other areas which I'm not used to, particularly as some are quite rough areas.
I have since found out that another office are hours down and a full time member is on verge of leaving. This office is practically where I live and would be ideal to be transferred to. I have spoken to the Dom at the desired office as I know who he is and vice versa, as I've worked for him before. He said he would have a word with the main boss.
I'm now desperate to get transferred as the thought of my new role fills me with dread.
What's the best way to go about this, and how successful are the transfer requests usually? Like I say, the desired office are hours down at the minute.

You'll probably have to go onto the Royal Mail Website, check out the jobs and fill in the on-line form. If you visit the nearby Office and speak to the DOM he may be able to pull a few strings (if it makes his life easier) but don't bet on it. 
The good thing about the Jobsearch site is at least you've got something in writing/print to say you've applied for the job. Often your name can remain for a year or so and then all of a sudden you could be offered a transfer. I'd fill in the form but also try hassling the Dom of the office you want to transfer too. I really want to transfer as I'm currently working in a office a few miles from where I live, but not sure working if in my own town would be a good or bad thing? It would save me money, but theres something I like about working in a town where no one knows me.
