Foreign 'Specials'

Can anyone tell me why we are taking foreign barcoded items from the locker and having to deliver them as specials before 1pm when they don't even need signing for?
The people receiveing them aren't expecting them at a certain time, why are we having to break off and go and deliver them when it's obvious we don't need to!!!!????

It must be some sort of agreement or the locker staff at the MC are doing it wrong. Anything that comes through the locker and is on the DUN is counted as a "Special" - there's no other way of dealing with them. I have noticed that they are primarily from the US.

The correct procedure is that any overseas item received through the locker is to be considered as an SD item and delivered and signed for by 1pm any overseas item received in the regular mail is to be considered as a RD item and delivered and signed for unless the item states "No Signature Required".
HWDC separate the items prior to despatch to the MC based on whether there is a reciprocal agreement with the country of origin.

I was trained that you only got a signature if it has the label so I don't bother now.

For these particular USA items, they do not even require a signature.

They are in fact like a Tracked - No Signature item. I had to sign them at least 2ce to realise that no signature is required.

On a different note, breaking off to do a Special might just be a case of time-management. But using the van driver in a P&L to deliver small SD items is not exactly that efficient - the walker will probably go to the same house.

I've never been flagged for delivering foreign specials after 1pm,i only make sure our SD get that service.Even the locker told me this years ago!

Ok. On the time management thing, this is why I made the post in the first place. Specials have to be delivered by 1 as we all know. As we all also probably know our walks finish at 3. If there are specials to be delivered at various places through the walk it is likely that one or two will be at a point that is normally reached after 1. Sometimes the jobs can be done in a different order so the specials can be delivered at the same time as the mail on that loop. Time management. Sometimes that can't be achieved and the driver has to break off and travel to get the special delivered before 1. So what? Sh1t happens and it's something that has to be managed, the customer has paid for that service and we put up with it. However, if the item is a $15 piece of junk jewelry ordered on ebay weeks before, doesn't need a signature and has no guarantee on what day it will arrive let alone what time it will arrive WHY am I running around, burning extra fuel, wasting time and money to get it delivered before 1?
Hybridsays he has never been flagged for delivering the foreign 'specials' after 1 and I think this must be the way to go, although not according to the locker or managers in our office. As Chris Jsaid I noticed this with items from the USA. Small envelopes that could easily have been carried in the bag and delivered as if they were tracked with no signature required. Thing is you don't know that until you have scanned them as delivered. If the party isn't in you have to slip them and take it back treated as a special when you could just have scanned it as delivered and stuck it through!

On bar coded items from overseas in the normal mail. What did happen to the red stickers? There is obviously some confusion here. Most think if there is no red sticker there is no need for a signature. This is what I have been doing but scan them anyway and enter 0 for no signature required. Shouldn't the foreign 'specials' that need a signature have a sticker on to say so? But if they don't need a signature why are they being treated as specials in the first place and that takes me back to where I started.

I say again. WHY are we treating USA barcoded items that don't need a signature as special delivery? There has to be a way around it because if these things are going to be arriving more regularly we are going to be getting seriously messed around for no reason.

I agree, fed up with these international ones. The amount of times I've cut off to get these by 1pm, and no signature required. What a waste of time and fuel etc.

Not my time that is being wasted, RM are paying me to do it so that's what I do.

If it has a bar code on it then it gets scanned into the PDA and if it needs signed for then it gets signed for...........and if I life it from the RLE then it gets there by 1pm.
