Saturday's off!

Hi all. I'd like to canvass this to you to see if this is the norm where you are?

I haven't had a rota'd Saturday off since last August (Yep, a full year) even though that in my contract it stated a rotational day off. Now, this is where they are tripping me up all the time. They/Managers tell me that it's because i'm a reserve. I then transfered recently to a closer office which was a one in 4 Saturday off but could be anywhere up to one in 6 for reserves. Even this i was happy with. Went into Managers office this week to ask if i could start having a few off to be told basically no. Reason?.......Already my staffing in in short supply on Saturday!!!

Now forgive me for asking, am i not entitled to Saturdays off then baring in mind my contract clearly states it? It's beginning to get up my nose because i too have a life plus kiddies that i can never plan any weekend events. I think it's so unfair.

Am i the only one here? Can my Union Rep put any weight behind it?

Interested to hear other stories of similar vein!

But yes you should have some off IMO
After all weren't we told by the union , the Royal Mail and tuc
That were going to make it more family friendly how on earth working all day Saturday is family friendly I not know

I have been lumbered with this for years, not only do I have to wait until a walk I cover is due a Saturday, the thieving shitbags swap those rare Saturdays to something more manageable for themselves. The rep is as much use as an ashtray on a bike when it ones to this, he's been trying to find a fairer way to apportion the Saturdays for years now. It not only getting Saturdays its actual long weekends too and knowing when they're due so me and the missus ( who has JUST bent my ear about this ver subject ) can actually do something together.

This revision giving 16 senior full timers 1 in 4 isn't going to make getting Saturdays any easier.

In my 8 years with RM I think I averaged not including holidays 2 saturday's off per year and it was just has bad with bank holidays,everytime one arrived,yes that my was day off for that week.I kept a carefull record of all these and when I left under IHR,they had to pay me a lot of money for bank holiday lieu days.If you are a reserve,you get treated like s**t.

In a court of law a contact is a contract, the same rule applies to employment contracts, take a copy of your contract in to work and show it to the little Hitler who runs your section; ask him/her to show you where on your contract the line or paragraph that states you do not get a day off on rotation!

It doesn't mention rotating days off in my contract or any contract I have seen.

BT2010 specifically states that reserves will be given the same number of Saturday's off as staff on rotation.
