Duty allocation
Hello,
We have recently had a secret vote on which 3 duties to allocate to part timers.prior to the vote one of the full time boys went around and told boys to vote for the 3 worst rounds in the office,I was not asked to vote and knew nothing about it until the duties where picked is there anything I can do about it?

Re: Duty allocation
I don't get the whole part-time/full-time walk thing anyway.
All of our duties go into a resign and are picked purely on the outdoor element by seniority.
Once the duties are picked the indoor element is added depending on contracted hours.
Why do some offices make it difficult for themselves?
Secret votes on shafting the part-timers....f**k off.

We have it because of the local situation.fishtank wrote:I don't get the whole part-time/full-time walk thing anyway.

5 postcodes in same office which is spread over 3 floors, and around 200 duties. So to avoid the situation where all duties in one section became FT or PT they have fixed FT and Fixed PT duties.

Re: Duty allocation
We are just about to confront this issue and the situation you have described above works well until you get to the shared van scenario. Would you really be able to have two full timers or two part timers in a shared van surely it would be better to have one of each in every shared van, until you have reached your limit according to the duty builders hours?fishtank wrote:I don't get the whole part-time/full-time walk thing anyway.

Re: Duty allocation
It depends entirely on what indoor tasks the PT and FT staff will be expected to do.pop it in pete wrote:We are just about to confront this issue and the situation you have described above works well until you get to the shared van scenario. If one person is expected to prep most or all of both deliveries then FT/PT is best. But if there is no difference between the indoor prep and delivery hours for both then any mixture is possible (FT/FT OR PT/PT OR FT/PT) as the FTs will be doing IPS or prepping other duties when not on their paired duties. The difficulties come when you have anything outside of 39 or 30 hour duties (or 8/6 on a daily basis) as it becomes difficult to resource, hence why I think some new Ptimers get fixed duties ahead of long serving FTs.

Re: Duty allocation
If you have two full-time and two part-time it doesn't matter how you pair those four up the full-timers will still be covering the part-time indoor workload.pop it in pete wrote:We are just about to confront this issue and the situation you have described above works well until you get to the shared van scenario. It might look prettier to have one full-time and one part-time on each pair and it might be easier to motivate the full-timer to complete the expected workload but neither of those reasons make it necessary.
Offices should not have part-timers on less than 6 hour daily attendances after a delivery methods revision.
A 5 hour daily attendance on a 4hr+ delivery is not fit for purpose and that point should be made by the rep long before it gets to the repick stage.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Duty allocation
So, Mr Tank...we've got 1/2 dozen people on 20-25 hr contracts....what happens to those people if they aren't supposed to be on less than 6hrs a day?
Up their contracts accordingly...or get rid?
