Family Friendly Finished now on Park & Loop?

Hello all.

I am hoping someone can help me with this. I will be having a word with the Rep tomorrow as he was off today.

Ok, here's the situation.

6 or 7 months back I filled out a Family friendly request form due to having a Baby. I was subsequently put on a new walk after having discussions with Management to meet my request.

It was a Cycle duty and basically it allowed me to start 1 hour early in order to finish for 1pm ( most finish at 2pm)

The problem I now have is they are expecting me to finish at 2pm to match up with the other bloke i'm working with - just to add no manager has told me this I heard it off the bloke who i'm paired up with.


Where do I stand? I think i'll struggle to sort out chidcare to look after our 1 year at such short notice and even with notice i'll struggle anyway.

I assume your office has just completed a revision, and has gone from 'traditional' deliveries, to P&L.
You have to re-submit your request for flexible working, and the manager has to look into it.
They are under no requirement to do as you ask.
If they do investigate the possibility, and decide it isn't doable, there isn't much you can do about it.
They can't refuse on the grounds that they just don't feel like it, nor can they refuse without actually trying to accommodate you. If they show it just isn't feasible, you're kind of stuck. They'll probably throw other things like transfers/hours reductions etc. at you, to get you to accept it as is.
It may be worth going up a level, I know someone who did this as their boss told them no without even trying, couldn't be bothered.

I have no proof, but I think managers are under pressure not to allow staff to have flexible working.
We used to have quite a few, but there are only one or two now.

Hour reduction will not solve it as part timers have to finish at the same time as full time staff.

That can only be changed by negotiation and agreement.

They made them re-submit the request in my unit, after the revision.
Which was dealt with by the Area Rep, and they didn't say anything about it.

Just as a matter of interest @ 19 times how would you feel if one half of your shared van duty turned round to you everyday and said to you " see you mate , I've finished " yet you've got another hour to go ??

What difference does it make as long as both are working their contracted hours?

Sorry to hijack this thread but i just wanted to say that i am going through flexible working hell at the minute, put my request in at the start of April, they messed me about then declined it.
Put in an appeal, made some perfectly good suggestions on how they could resource it, i need one extra saturday off a month for childcare and currently have 1 in 4 but came back again and said they couldn't do it, but then went on to say that they would give me every saturday off if i went part time???

I am desperate so i was at one point actually thinking of doing it until i was told by HR that the agreememnt is reviewed anually and can be changed if it no longer meets business needs??? WTF so i go part time to get the saturdays off and then they change it after one year and i'm back where i started only now part time, so it seems they can change it and it's not permanent.

That's just some HR bod making s**t up.
They can't circumvent the law.
Unless there is an agreed review period,there isn't any scope to "review it annually".

I want what you are saying to be true, i have been told also by our manager,regional resourcing manager and even a union rep who deals with flexible working that this is what happens.

Small quote from the RM Flex working literature :

Impact on working arrangements
If the request is granted, this may lead to a change in the employee’s terms and conditions of employment. As a minimum the arrangement will be reviewed by the line manager and the employee annually.
