Royal Mail shake up to boost jobs in town - Market Rasen

A delivery shake up by the Royal Mail is set to create new jobs in Market Rasen - but it means some people will now get their post later in the day.

The Royal Mail has announced it is changing delivery methods and routes in the LN8 postcode area - Market Rasen and surrounding villages - over the coming weeks.

It means 17 part-time and temporary staff at the Market Rasen delivery office will be made full-time and permanent.

But the changes - brought in due to a fall in letters and increase in larger items posted - will result in some businesses and households having to wait until the afternoon for their mail.

Now, postmen and women will get new equipment to carry larger, heavier items, to help prevent injuries.

And the Royal Mail says it may need to change delivery arrangements and times “when mail volumes vary”.

Royal Mail spokesman Nick Martens said: “There have been no redundancies and we are confident that customers will benefit from our investment in new equipment and delivery methods.”

It actually says will be made full-time and permanent.
That could mean some fixed term contracts may be made into permanent part-time contracts and not necessarily full-time permanent contracts.
It depends how you read it.

Well however you split the hair it says full time and permanent, so which is it I wonder, it could have read 10 pt to ft and 7 temp to perm but it didn't so here we are left pondering

This is the usual about to go live crap from The Royal Fail P.R. machine Nick Martens and is total Bull shite.
It reflects in No way what is going on in Market Rasen they are nowhere near signed off and same old story the unit is a complete shambles
Several of the promises to full time have been working full time on twenty five hour contracts for years, so you know what that means on leave/sick!
Two full time deliveries have also been lost and most of the others been vacanct for months and some YEARS, all vacated by well p**sed off Posties who saw the the light and went.

R.M. have tried to win over staff by promising full time or permanent contracts to then try and use those people to put pressure on the CWU to get things signed off, and speed things up cos the planner/Dom are keen to get their bonuses and stuff the frontline.
The Dom is proposing to leave the troops just as they go live. I bet the planner planned that one in.

Absolute total chaos in Market Rasen today Wednesday. Town area still being delivered as we head to four o'clock and staffing completely dire for the rest of the week.
It's working, certainly not as rosy as the Royal Mail press release posted at the top of the page but hey ho lets all bury our heads in the sand and sing success. NOT!
