How many DDA's

As the title say's just wondering the amount of DDA's in everybody's office? Were currently going through our re-pick at the moment and all of a sudden everybody seems to have discovered they can't cope and need rounds tailoring to there needs. We have about 55 people in the office and there is at the last count 18 on the DDA list. That's a third of the workforce . Are everybody's offices like this? or just ours.

Year on delivery will cause that, if they're covered then they're covered. Not anybody elses concern but theirs.

only 4 out of 50 ish in ours,,,,,,,1 has seen a solicitor and forced himself in to 1st pick,,,,he has less than 10 years service hand has got 1st pick ahead of 40 year service men,,,,don't ask me how but he has the d.o.m running scared

atos will decide if you come under the equality act. then reasonable adjustment has to be made to your duty if you are protected by the equality act. that's my understanding of it.

Funny that we have a few who cannot do deliveries but do packet duties/callers etc, but then go and play a few rounds of golf during the week and work their day's off aswell ffs and I struggle to make it to the end of the week

Sounds very much where I'm coming from. Can't do a delivery but manage overtime and afternoon collections. We work the wallingtons in our office which is 1 week off in 6 and they seem to manage to work that week off for overtime and yes that's as well as playing football,mountain biking,golf,horse riding etc......

I'm not bashing the disabled but some people are taking advantage of the system....Have they really got that much of a disability?? They'd be claiming benefits surely??

There's a woman in our office under the dda because of her knees, the reason she has trouble with them is because she's at least 5 stone overweight (she's a driver).

So, she no longer does any drops or houses that have steps, someone else does those for her. If people have genuine medical issues then fine, but being grossly overweight is hardly an incurable condition.

There are around 9 or 10 dda's in our office out of 150ish staff.

With that mentality some people can't win. They called benefit scroungers by Ian Duncan Smith, ATOS say they are fit for work, and some die shortly after their assessment, and then people like your good self who appear to think disabled people should be hidden away.

You do of course realise that some of the conditions that come under the equality act are not immediately apparent, and that they may not stop people from working, its just that they need a few adjustments.

Its illegal for anyone to divulge personal medical details of anyone. So whilst you may think there is nothing wrong with them, they have been thorough a process of being assessed and graded by people with more medical knowledge than both you and I, who have come to a decision. We should live with it.

Yes people take advantage, but that doesn't mean that all do, or even that most do. If any do its a small minority and they should looking at their own conscience as well as some on here.

Also I think your understanding of the Equality Act is seriously flawed and perhaps a little research before commenting would correct some of your assumptions and give you a better appreciation of why some people are on it.

Excellent summary TBT, too many people do not know or fully understand the DDA situation. Unfortunately neither do many managers ! Reasonable adjustment in many cases can be done - if enough effort/interest and compassion is shown towards genuine claimants.

for the record i suffered a AOD i told my Dim after RTW was still struggling and that the summer lapsing on top of my duty was likely to aggrevate the injury (knee ligaments) he made atos appointment .He quesioned mine theres and my GP.I lodged a greivance.Next thin g you know i was facing conduct issues Wilful Delay before you know it dismissed ,appealed waste of time.Sorry to have to say it but the CWU were pants.Now i have to get Police involved.One thing i cant abide is Liars 4 of them i only hope these scumbags get what they deserve fingers crossed

Reminds me of my neighbour - blue badge/motability car/walking stick the works. Hobbles up the street with a terrible limp. But, when he gets home a miracle occurs. He can cut the grass/scale ladders/lay pavers/dig his allotment etc no problem in the privacy of his garden...All unaided.

I have no problem with anyone getting help when they need it, sadly the minority spoil it for the genuine majority.
