25 hour contracts and breaks.

Hi all. Quick question. I'm on 25 hour contract. Am I entitled to a break? My contract says yes. Management think otherwise. I think it's 20 mins ? Not entirely sure.

I use to be on a 25 hr contract, 5 days a week, 5hrs a day with a 30 min break.

Maybe I was told the wrong thing ? but I was made to split it 20 mins at start and 10 at the end, so not really a break.

It will depend on the length of your individual shift if you are entitled to a break or not but according to the Gov.uk website

If you work 6 hours you are entitled to a 20 minute break. IIRC this does seem to be a change to what the law used to be as I think it used to be 15 minutes after 5 hours.

It would also be worth checking your contract as it may be stated in there how long your breaks are which could be better than 20 minutes after 6 hours

There is an agreement between RM and CWU on break entitlement.
You definitely get 30 mins in your 5 hours day.

but does the 5 hours include your break for ex 4:30 duty time + 30 min break = 5 hours

One of my days is 4 hours 55 minutes including 2 X 10 minute breaks. If I run 10 minutes over presumably I should claim for 20 minutes as the 10 minute overrun would take me over 5 hours - thus entitling me to another 10 minute break.

Yes - otherwise it would be an unpaid break - when its actually a paid break.
