Copied from 'Absence Notification and Maintaining Contact Guide'
'Where an employee’s absence lasts for more than seven days, they will need to provide a medical certificate, which can also be known as a ‘Fit Note’, to cover continuing absence until they return to work.'
So say I was sick on the 12th. Called it in before shift started. [tick]
I could only get a doctors appointment 7 days later on the 19th. [tick]
Got a fit note allowing me to be off for two weeks starting on the 19th (7 days after going off sick) and sent that in to work the same day via email [tick]
Is there any possible reason why I would then receive a deduction of £72 titled 'Arrears of unpaid absence'?
Headoffice said i was registered for unpaid leave on the 12th. Isn't that incorrect practise?
As I understand it the doctor doesn't have to give me a fit note backdated to the first day that I didn't go into work, does he?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Re: Absences of more than 7 days vs. sick note (fit note)
(Bump)
Called HR/payroll again about it.
They said my line manager has put me down for 1 days unpaid leave. I explained that makes no sense then because I was off for 7 days prior to giving my sick note.
Whatever his train of thought is, shouldn't he have put me down for 7 days unpaid leave then?!
At that point HR/Payroll said they cant get involved in the technicalities but stated my manger will have to prove his logic via written policy.
Looks like I'll be having a disagreement on my first day back, not a good start.
