Van Share

Our office as recently gone into the van share, and its no suprise that the office is in chaos. I`m sure everything will turn out ok, but can anyone let me know what the national agreement is for the ips. I was under the impression that when we van share, one of us throws out the walks and the other goes on the ips, so why is the management insisting that everyone goes on the ips, especially the posties whom throws walks out , even though management insists for only 20 mins.

It just depends of what your office has agreed, sometimes people go on IPS, sometimes they double prep, sometimes 1 preps both duties and the other goes on IPS, it really just depends.

Basically your manager will have stats of how much "sequenced" mail each duty has. So if you have to prep 2 duties the office manager will tell you that you have X amount of minutes to prep the 2 duties. Then after that you will be ordered to prep other duties or do some IPS sorting. But here is the sticking point! This prep rate has only been "nationally" agreed for single slot delivery frames. IF you do not prep the 2 duties in the allotted time, the DOM will tell you that "this is a performance issue". The DOM will say you may be taken down the conduct code route as you're a lazy git. But this is NOT BULLYING OR HARRASSMENT apparently!!!!

From my experience you go up do the sorting, then you and your partner can NOT do your "Lapsed" and "cut off" some of your walk, " coz you ain't had your 20mins break"...then watch them actual start managing you!....let them start earning there wages!!...

FT staff go on IPS or prep walks as directed. You do not have one prepping both walks whilst the other goes on IPS unless there are issues and an agreement to do it with that particular pair of walks.

It seems to depend completely on what your planners were like after a revision, we had ours 2 years ago and in all honesty the walks are good, way better than others seem to have. We only had issues with a few walks, and obviously when Christmas comes around you often can't complete because of the sheer amount of van packets but that isn't your problem.

I`m sure everything will turn out ok,

I'm of the understanding that at ours (mostly 39/34) most of the manual sorting is done by 39 before 34 starts so in an ideal world both get on own frames at same time.
however we do have those who like a chat etc and some how instead of an hour general sorting to help the whole office to get out at a reasonable time, they are allowed to sort their own, get out and get done early to cut the risk of them cutting off, even on tuesdays, some 34 are not far off ready for bagging up before they even sign in!
this as a knock on effect to the rest as we a pushing it to get done rather than at a canter like some.
also, because of the 39'ers only doing 34'ers jobs but paid for 39, i am then refused indoor o/t because our managers have to go prepping up duties i/we should be offered because they allow some people to take the mickey.
our union does nothing about it despite a few raised concerns, our managers even go out delivering quite often
