Asking for a holiday day

Im looking for a holiday and requested it today, I asked could I be told by the end of the week if ive got it or not, and was told they wouldn't know, how long can they hold off from telling you if you have got it or not, need to make plans either way.

we are always told last minute, infact once a member of staff put in for a day, they weren't sure if he could have it, he was told to phone the office at 6-00am on the day he wanted off and they would know then.

All managers are a bunch of w"""ers and ive had enough of mine till point i told them that come tomorrow im not doing them any favours and i shall be using a trolley eevryday even though i have 1 bundle and every time i knock at the dor i shall count to 30 then knock again then write out a card.... oh and if my duty is not up intime i ask for help. On top of this i make sure that i never ever walk over a drive, i use the paths provided even though it is open plan. The agreement I thought was they have to give you notice. Upto half the time between the time you first requested and the date in question.

So if you ask for a day off, say August the 14th and you apply August the 1st. You should know by the seventh.

Seems the agreement is that if they fail you default win.

I can beat that. Four years ago I put in for a Saturday between my Friday off and a holiday the following week. Heard nothing from management and got to my frame at 6.45 to find someone else on it At least a phone call would have saved me getting out of bed.
