Revisions !! just to cause upset?? or to save money??

weve been planning for a revision for over 12 months now,,,,loads of times weve got to a couple of weeks from a start date and were able to throw a spanner in the works.

like I said we started the revision last summer.....now 12months on we seem to be about 1 to 2 weeks away from the start of it.

were an office of about 50 walks,,,,,it will be 75% full time 25% part time staff.

so weve gone from bikes to 20+ vans,,,,so obviously a large cost increase,,,,then theres fueling the vans each week.....so simply to me that doesn't make financial sense.

all part time staff will move up from 24 and 27 hr contracts to 30hr contracts (don't get me wrong its good to see they`ll take home more money)
the d.o.m has had to offer 6 part time staff full time contracts.....ok 2 of these will be temp to cover sickness

so were in all of this will there be savings,,,,,,it seems there throwing money at it now just to get the revision in

were also slightly diff cos of health and safety the yard aint big enough so vans will have to come in and load at set times,,,,so were given a leaving time after our breaks soooo then having enough time to do a 4 hr + delivery......the office next to us has had there revision and all last week lads were coming over for overtime,,,at 12 o clock on a thurs and fri LOL so they've had a great revision.

I think it is primarily to save money.
And whilst there are extra expenses in vans and fuel etc., there are also cuts elsewhere, like cutting pouch bag runs out, no separate parcel vans, no waiting for buses giving more time for delivery etc.

There is also the possibility that a longer term plan has started, and this is the beginning of that. Maybe owner drivers will be the end state at some point.

The main aim is to save money. If they cause upset, that's just an added bonus to RM.

Do you ever say anything to all the guys who Come In early etc and spoil the revision?

Our manager keeps telling us its costing him more money with the revision. .

We had an indoor revision,,,backless fittings and porter and alike over 12months ago,,,,from that day the d.o.m stopped anybody starting before your time,,,,and that's still in place today,,,,,,so good on him,,,,and errr us for sticking to it,,,,,,what happens after the outdoor revision kicks in is anybodies guess though LOL
