ATOS report - what to do next

Hi all, I've been browsing the forum for a while now and decided it was time to join and get involved.
I've been a postman for many years and have never had any time off sick until last Friday. I'd rather not say too much or the reason why I am off as I don't want to give myself away to colleagues and possible managers who use this site.
I've just had a phone call from ATOS, who have been fantastic and are helping me resolve a lot of issues I'm having at work. Anyway, they have recommended I stay off work until I have seen my GP (Tuesday 30th). They have wrote this in the report that they have sent to my manager.
Now all that is done do I still need to remain in regular contact with my manager or should I just phone in a day or 2 before I go back?

I've been off for 4 weeks and not even a phone call from my manager. Thought it'd been awhile so I popped into the office and was told he was just about to ring me. Told him I'd be off for at least another 6 weeks and got a shrug.


Not even a mention of ATOS yet.

Well I have just got off the phone to a line manager (not even mine) and felt like I am being bullied in to coming back to work or else!
If I don't get a sick note by tomorrow then I am expected to go in.
ATOS have advised me to stay off work until I have seeked medical advice from my doctor. My appointment is next week but my manager has demanded that I phone my doctor today to get a same day appointment otherwise I HAVE to come in.
Surely this is bullying and harassment? Should I get the union involved in this as I'm not happy and now even more stressed than I was!

Employees need to provide a self certificate for the first 7 days of absence and a medical certificate for any absence over 7 days.

When I was involved with ATOS the report sent to my managers regarding my absence was not a copy of the "same report" that was sent to me.Be careful what you say to ATOS.

No, you don't HAVE go in. If you're sick, you're sick. Your lino is just threatening to not give you sick pay in the absence of a Doctor's note. Phone him and tell him you're not going in but will provide a Doctor's note. At your appointment on Tuesday get your Doctor to backdate the note, and then get it to your lino asap.
If he does stop sick pay you'll be reimbursed when they get the certificate. If that doesn't happen then get the union involved.

A same day appointment at the Doctor's surgery ? Certainly unheard of around these parts
