Passport Delivery - Why don't we do it (any more)?

Just took a delivery of a passport from someone who really looked like a Yodel/DPD local cowboy, apart from an identification tag round his neck and a small grill on the back window of his unmarked Ford Ka 'van'! Why on earth aren't we doing this business via Special Delivery, even though the child's passport had my name on it as the parent/guardian my wife was happily able to sign, so no extra level of security there. Big business being lost every day. Why oh why?

I think we still do Passports but they come through the normal mail in a brown envelope. I have delivered one or two more recently.

Perhaps, it is the Special Delivery side or Premium service that has been contracted out. SD is about £6.00 so I wonder how much the cowboys are charging to deliver just the odd one or two in different parts of the country - I bet it is a 'loss-leader' and pure propaganda.

The amount if pasports I found chewed up in imps was unreal, but I think they were more from being send to to DWP etc!

I got my first passport about 6 months ago and that was delivered by a third party, nits sure who. And my girlfriends pasport renewal was delivers also by a third party!

I had a Special last week that the chap was obviously waiting in for.

He was at the door when I pulled up & exclaimed 'great,my passport' when he saw the silver packet in my hand.

First one I've knowingly delivered in a long time though.

we deliver passports.special delivery.old one comes back next day,usually,first class mail

my sons old one was pushed through the letterbox by a bloke in a car, still hanging out the letterbox and they didn't knock. My new one came by the same means last month

Passports that we do deliver tend to be coming from an embassy after someone has applied for a visa. I took one to a bloke, and the return address was an embassy in London, and he was like "oh great, it's finally back".

So it's not new passports we're delivering. Just the expired ones in brown envelopes and ones coming back from embassies etc. and maybe ones that UKBA/The Home Office are returning to migrants.

I don't know if its because we are in Scotland but our office gets dozens of SD passports
most days. They seem to be using this route now instead of sending them by regular recorded.
It seemed to coincide when the delivery to neighbour came in for obvious reasons.

Even if sent by special delivery with us then that would still have happened

Passports are now delivered by a company called DX (thedx.co.uk) which is usually a bloke in a plain old van and as others have rightly said - the expired passports that are sent to the Passport Agency as part of your renewal are sent back to the customer via RM. However, "when" DX f**k up the delivery of a passport (as they have done with two of mine now) then the Passport Agency will resend a duplicate using RM Special Delivery
