RCS - any info appreciated.

Hello all. I'm attending a RCS (resource control system) training course tomorrow and Wednesday.

Anybody know what I can expect? I've been told the system can be quite hard to get to grips with, am I in for two days of stress?

It's all based on the supply and demand of the staff in your office, based in hours and minutes.

In short and in very simple terms an example would be if you had ten staff off in your office for whatever reason , holidays , sick leave etc, then you would need ten reserves allocated in your rcs to cover the absence.

However if you only had 6 reserves available, then you would need to make up the gap by entering some absence overtime, people working days off etc. Finally you have your pressure overtime, extended delivery, packets or whatever overtime may crop at short notice

I wouldn't worry about it , or panic . It is a lot to take in at first you might get a bit bamboozled, but you'll soon get the hang! Why don't you arrange to sit in a few times with whoever inputs the rcs in your office

Our recent resource meeting takes place via tannoy - it consists of a manager announcing there are too many staff in that day and offering a days holiday to whoever is quickest off the mark - then the lapsing has to be covered and part timers are paid overtime to cover it I queried the practice and was told it was difficult to control because of the varied start times...........sort of on the spot man management. At one time I would have tried to get the union involved but they seem to have adopted the managerial shrug of recent times.

What a farce, sounds a bit like supermarket sweep, people charging about aisles
