finding time to put D2D's Up.
Im on a 22 and half hour contract, My start time is meant to be 10am but everyone in the office part time comes in at half 8.
When I arrive my frame is preped for me (at least it should be!), However the rounds ive been on the last few weeks are designed for full time staff, they are usually out the door by half 8, 9am. Where as I am only getting in then and out at around half 9. When I get back its either just about to close or it has closed and everyone has gone home, so Im struggling to find time to put my D2D's up.
If I start earlia it wont change anything as the people who prep my frames aim to finish at half 8, so I would just be doing their jobs.
Ive spoken to the manager and just got the usual "lets just see how it goes".
How does everyone else find time to put the D2D's up? my office closes around half 2 and im usually back between 2 and half 2, so tuesday is the only day I usually find a bit of time to do some.

There is always time to complete indoor work.
There isn't always time to complete outdoor work.

How many hours do you work each day and what is the delivery span in your office?

22 1/2 he does not have time to do much on his frame. by the time he has meal relief, and gets things like pda and other items. even if he is min 3 1/2 span which most do have now with lwt's etc, he has no time to put up d2ds which even with min he is allowed 10-15 mins. which increases with the number he has. its upto dom to give him extra hours . also d2d are live mail so they should also be prepped in on the day. the procedure is take out 1st d2d place on frame, then put into slots. then do this for all d2d. no putting d2d inside each other. It takes time I know but if dom is being pillock then do it this way and run out of time for delivery, and if hassle see rep

I had this issue with management for the PT staff. D2D is classed as live mail, and it should be in your frame and prepped by a FT staff memmber for a PT staff member coming in. Union even confirmed this.
So all i know is its classed as live mail and its a performance issue in the office if it is not getting put into your frame on time

You are assuming the 22.5 is spread over 5 days. I wasn't because SHE suggests SHE is out on delivery from 9.30 - 2/ 2.30.kilrenny wrote:22 1/2 he does not have time to do much on his frame .

Re: finding time to put D2D's Up.
The basic rule - is - there is no basic rule.
Different offices have different delivery spans, different attendance patterns and different contracts by hours.
Because of that what happens in one office might not happen in another - D2Ds are down to local agreement and for management to resource. I wonder if that's why there is such a big push on quality for D2Ds at the moment.
If the D2Ds are not being prepped by you or others, then you should check with the local union rep, and or management to see what the local arrangements are, and if they aren't being followed then address any concerns to management, not other posties. We cannot or perhaps, shouldn't is a better word, say which posties or what type of contract should be prepping them, that's the exclusively the prerogative of management

I had the same problem. First of all if your start time is 10 and people see you coming in at 9 then they'll leave stuff for you to do.. such as door to doors. You are going in early to simply do someone elses job.sophie97 wrote:My start time is meant to be 10am ...... I asked for a detailed plan of what I'm meant to be doing at what time. I was gobsmacked. I was meant to be going in, bagging up, having a break and leaving. I started going in on time and spending an hour finishing off prep, finding manager and telling him I was an hour late leaving the office so had to leave an hours work behind. He soon got walk prepped like it should be.
Now, if I claim overtime, I write it down in big letters. Reason: COMPLETE PREP / DOOR TO DOORS.

Yep, that's what I keep saying about this job. A lot of staff don't have to do what they are doing, simply go in on time and finish on time, yes I realise some managers will give you hassle but as long as your work rate is ok there isn't a thing they can do. They will always take the easiest route, and if that means getting your prep etc sorted properly then that's what will happen.cyclemech1 wrote:Textbook, mate.NewPostieUK wrote:I had the same problem. Re: finding time to put D2D's Up.
I'm the only part timer in my office that comes in when they should and it is constantly causing grief. On and Monday and Tuesday, most of the posties have already left and are out delivering as I am just starting at my frame. D2D's are rarely ever prepped for me. A lot of the time the packet's haven't been sorted and turned for either. I am always the last to leave the office because of this and as I am a reserve and usually on a different walk every day, the postie I am sharing a van with on that day is none too pleased at being kept back by at least 20 minutes, compared with if he was on with a full timer. I have started getting a lot of sarcastic comments about being the last out the office and more often than not the last back. I still finish within my time 95% of the time and quite often early but still like an hour behind most of them on some days. It's annoying as the way of working pre delivery is quite clearly designed on the assumption the part timers will just come in and work early and sadly every other one does. I've queried this with management and been told that officially everyone is to leave the office at the same time. Of course this is never enforced unless someone has really pissed the manager off
It comes down to poor management really as packets and d2d should be done for you coming in. Most of the full timers just look out for themselves and make sure there frame is sorted and good to go, then shoot off as soon as last mail feed is in.

You have a van share buddy? If so then he should be finishing up your duty so that the both of you get out without him having to wait, is it any wonder this job is so crap when some people don't have to common sense to help out their buddyjimboaby wrote:I'm the only part timer in my office that comes in when they should and it is constantly causing grief. Mine starts the same time as me, so rarely gets to help me. I hate being 'helped' anyway. Moving packets around, bundles in bags upside down, no room at frame etc etc, he just gets in the way. To be fair, he often loads van on his own, while I'm getting ready to leave office.DGP1 wrote: You have a van share buddy? listen mate it doesnt matter who the f**k preps your round if it isn't ready then you just complete it until you are all up together and ready to tie up. You then look at the clock and then notice how late you are then you go to manager and say you are either working until 2 0 clock and can't work over or you want to be paid o/t.
simple as that
